This role is part of the Environmental Strategy function, a small but highly capable team within CBA’s Environmental & Social function.

Seeing the long-term strategic value of climate analytics capabilities, CBA’s Environmental Strategy team is responsible for analysing the potential impact of physical and transition climate risks to the Group, and partner across the Group to deliver decision-useful insights that inform strategy and risk management.
This function sits within the Group’s Environmental & Social team who is focused building a brighter future for CBA - embedding environmental and social matters into our strategy and focusing on sustainable practices, policies and outcomes.
In this role you will
As a Senior Analyst you will work closely with the rest of the Group’s Environmental Strategy team, Business Units and Risk Management teams to analyse opportunities and risks faced by CBA due climate change. The analysis will inform the Group’s decision-making and strategy to deliver on its climate commitments while continuing to create value for shareholders, and to navigate the risks posed by climate change.
Other duties will include:

Analysing Resilience priorities: work with colleagues across Environmental Strategy, Business Units and Risk Management to complete climate analyses to understand physical risks

Conducting Climate Analytics: Drawing on multiple analytical techniques to translate global climate scenarios into potential impacts to the Group, and drawing out implications. Examples include

International scenarios: lead the Group’s analysis of macroeconomic and weather scenarios published by different international bodies (IPCC, IEA, NGFS) to provide insights on their implications for the Australian economy and CBA

Acute physical risk: Analyse the risks to physical assets (e.g., mortgages) arising from an increased frequency and/or severity of extreme weather events

Chronic physical risk: Analyses the impact of long-term changes in weather patterns on economic activity (e.g., agricultural productivity)

Partner with stakeholders across the Group to translate analysis into insights, informing decision-making

Produce insights to be included in CBA’s public climate disclosures in line with TCFD recommendations

Collaborate with and support other teams delivering the Group’s environmental strategy (e.g., Financed Emissions / sector-level targets, Sustainable Finance)
We’re interested in hearing from people who have

Strong interest in and knowledge of, global climate scenarios, methodologies and strategies

Exceptional quantitative analysis and coding skills

Experience in risk quantification in the insurance or banking industry, such as estimating the impact of extreme weather to real estate assets and calculating expected credit losses to lending portfolios under different economic scenarios

Ability to extract key business and risk insights from complex data analysis and communicate them clearly and concisely to senior management

Exceptional conceptual and analytical skills, evident business acumen and excellent verbal and written communication capability with an ability to manage multiple stakeholders with differing views

An understanding of the concepts of credit risks and credit risk modelling

Undergraduate qualifications in either Mathematics, Physics, Meteorology, Economics, Finance or other related field and/or relevant Graduate Diploma, Masters Qualification, PhD
