Your role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior technology lawyer to join our Office of General Counsel team. This role involves identifying, and advising on, risk and compliance issues throughout the firm and coordinating the implementation of initiatives and strategies to address these issues in line with the firm's risk framework.  This role will specifically focus on in-house matters relating to the firm's data, technology, innovation and more general IT environment so will suit someone with experience in Technology law looking to work in a collaborative and high performing team in a top tier law firm environment.

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is the firm's in-house legal team. In general terms, the OGC provides legal advice to the firm on a variety of issues, facilitates the firm's compliance with applicable laws and legal best practice and assists the firm meet its risk management objectives.

This is a specialist role which will operate with some autonomy and specifically support in-house legal matters relating to the firm's technology approach, with key responsibilities to include:

  • Providing legal advice to senior management and other internal stakeholders on a variety of issues;

  • Reviewing vendor and procurement contracts;

  • Guiding the implementation of frameworks to ensure best practice and compliance within our Corporate Services departments;

  • Facilitating the firm's compliance with applicable laws relevant to each jurisdiction in which it operates; and

  • Providing subject matter expertise relevant to data and technology within the OGC team

This is a (permanent, full-time) opportunity. Hybrid working (60% in the office) is how we work. However, flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking additional flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.

About you

You will have:

  • Demonstrated previous experience gained from practising in Technology law, with experience in the drafting and negotiation of a broad range of IT/telecommunications contracting data regulation and other regulatory advice.

  • Australian or other common law jurisdiction experience.

  • An ability to effectively manage matters of varying sizes with competing deadlines

  • A desire and ability to grow your legal skills and develop your commercial acumen in an in-house role

  • A willingness to build an understanding of the challenges faced by internal clients and develop effective working relationships.

  • An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks.

  • A willingness to develop others through mentoring and sharing experiences and networks.
