Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work - we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA - and we like to think that's part of the fun! So this will give you a flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
• Building services, tools and frameworks that help rapidly and effectively solve user issues across multiple domains• Collaborating with stakeholders and designers to create world-class support experiences• Partnering across teams to build holistic technical solutions• Improving engineering practices and backend methodologies• Spotting opportunities for cross-team collaboration on innovative projects• Empowering and mentoring engineers within the team
You're probably a match if
• You have 5+ years' experience building distributed systems and backend services in Java• You're a strong backend engineer who thrives on solving complex problems• You bring a disciplined, high-quality approach to coding and peer review• You're a proactive communicator and enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams• You combine big-picture thinking with a keen eye for detail• You're motivated to improve the support experience for millions of users• (Bonus!) You have experience integrating AI/LLM tools or working closely with operational teams to deliver impact
About the team
The Specialist Platform and Experience (SPXP) team sits within Global User Voice Enablement, part of the User Voice supergroup. We're on a mission to build secure, scalable, and delightful tools for our support specialists. Our work directly helps Canva scale to support 1 billion users without increasing specialist headcount - and we're proud to contribute to that crazy big goal.
We partner deeply with internal support teams, use AI and automation to reduce human intervention, and continuously improve how we help our community.
