About us

At Gridcog, we’re on a mission to accelerate investment in the clean energy transition. We are a SaaS start-up of energy nerds building the best project modelling software, so our users can make intelligent energy decisions.

Who we’re looking for

Our software enables professionals in renewable energy to make informed investments into energy projects that deliver economic and environmental value. Our clients include many of the world’s leading Developers, IPPs, Consultants and Energy Majors. We already have a strong presence with a small team in Melbourne and a number of clients in the Australian market including Acen, Vestas, EDL, AGL, Flow Power, mPower, European Energy and Mint Renewables.

Gridcog is experiencing strong growth in this client sector, driven by increasing project complexity. Developers are co-locating and hybridising generation with storage, connecting under flexible connection agreements, and working through new NEM rules for co-located and hybrid assets. Revenue stacks are harder to model and bankability depends on getting the contracted layer right, whether that is a PPA, a tolling or revenue-floor agreement, or a long-term contract under the new Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM). Data centre development is adding a new class of large, firm loads that need to be modelled alongside generation and storage. All of this requires our advanced modelling software.

You will be able to quickly build rapport with our clients and prospects, empathise with their challenges (modelling complex energy projects) and demonstrate how Gridcog’s software solution will help. You will own new business growth targets for Gridcog in Australia and New Zealand, delivering on a pre-agreed quarterly sales target.

You’ll also have a passion for the Gridcog mission, be a self-starter who is happy to work at pace in a fast growing startup, and enjoy collaborating with your colleagues globally. If this sounds like you, please read on!

What you’ll do as part of our team

  • Contribute to Gridcog’s growth by winning new Project Developer accounts in Australia and New Zealand, in line with agreed company and individual targets. This includes managing and qualifying a pipeline of opportunities, targeting specific client accounts, managing client demo processes and closing opportunities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the renewable energy project financing lifecycle in Australia and New Zealand, positioning yourself to support leading companies in expanding their asset portfolios.
  • Share customer and market insights with the wider Gridcog team.
  • Build your personal brand in the Australian energy industry by attending events and supporting Gridcog marketing activity.
  • Follow and improve our commercial processes including keeping your pipeline and deal records up to date in our CRM.
  • Act as part of a global team, supporting your colleagues in pursuit of company-wide goals.
  • Learn from and contribute to a small but experienced and successful business development team, with exposure to complex deals and decision making.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Demonstrated success in a senior commercial role in energy. This could be in data, research or SaaS sales, or a background in power markets gained through experience in origination, project development or analytics.
  • A strong network in the Australian energy ecosystem, particularly with Developers and IPPs.
  • A good understanding of battery storage in the Australian market.
  • Demonstrable success in both hitting and exceeding objective targets.
  • Ambition, energy and commercial drive. You’ll be a self-starter, comfortable in ambiguity and willing to get stuck in – Gridcog is a dynamic startup environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English, with a strong sense of customer empathy; you build strong and enduring relationships with your clients and with your colleagues in London, Madrid and Perth.
  • A willingness to become an expert in the Gridcog software.

We’d also love it if you have

  • Familiarity with the NEM and WEM market frameworks, flexible connection agreements and dynamic operating envelopes, co-located and hybrid storage, the Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM) and other contracted revenue structures, and the revenue stack for battery storage.
  • Technical knowledge in more than one of the following areas: renewable energy, battery storage or wholesale energy markets.
  • Knowledge of the energy project financing cycle including project bankability and debt financing.
  • Demonstrated success in a B2B SaaS business.
  • Experience using different sales methodologies.
  • Startup experience.

Benefits
  • Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and skills.
  • Be part of a high-performing team that values innovation and creative problem-solving.
  • Contribute to the decarbonisation of the world’s energy system.
  • Support for ongoing professional and personal development.
  • An annual all company retreat, our previous retreats were in Bali and Bintan Island.
