We are seeking an experienced Senior Calypso Developer to work on complex trading and post-trade platforms within a financial market?s technology environment. This role is hands-on and requires deep expertise in Calypso development, Java, APIs, and Calypso workflows, supporting the full lifecycle of system development, enhancement, and production support.
The successful candidate will design, develop, and support robust Calypso solutions across front-to-back-office processes, working closely with business analysts, architects, and support teams to deliver scalable, high-performance, and regulatory-compliant solutions.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Calypso Development & Customisation
- Design and develop custom Calypso solutions using Java, Calypso APIs, and framework components
- Implement and maintain Calypso workflows, custom actions, rules, scheduled tasks, and event processing
- Develop and enhance trade workflows, lifecycle events, and post-trade processing logic
- Configure and extend Calypso functionality for trade capture, confirmations, settlements, risk, valuation, and collateral
- Experience or exposure to Calypso Automated Testing Tool (CATT) for supporting automated regression testing, validating custom workflows/APIs, and ensuring solution stability across releases.
Integration & APIs
- Build and support real-time and batch integrations using Calypso APIs (XML, REST, JMS, messaging frameworks)
- Develop and maintain interfaces with upstream and downstream systems (trading, market data, clearing, settlement, reporting)
- Support inbound and outbound messaging, feeds, and file-based integrations
Platform Ownership & Support
- Perform impact analysis for change requests, regulatory updates, and Calypso upgrades
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes
- Optimise system performance, scalability, and stability across Calypso components
- Support BAU activities including incident resolution, release deployments, and enhancements
Delivery & Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Business Analysts to translate functional requirements into technical designs
- Work with architects to align solutions with enterprise and Calypso architecture standards
- Participate in Agile delivery ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, security, audit, and regulatory requirements
Required Skills & Experience
Core Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Calypso Trading & Risk Management Platform
- Expert-level Java development (server-side, performance-optimised code)
- Extensive experience with Calypso APIs, custom engines, and frameworks
- Deep knowledge of Calypso workflows, rules, tasks, events, and schedulers
- Strong SQL skills for data analysis, troubleshooting, and reconciliation
- Experience with Unix/Linux, shell scripting, and batch processing
Calypso Functional Knowledge
- End-to-end trade lifecycle expertise across Front, Middle, and Back Office
- Asset classes: Rates, FX, Fixed Income, Derivatives, Repos
- Post-trade processes including confirmations, settlements, clearing, margining, and reconciliations
- Understanding of risk, valuation, P&L, collateral management, and static/reference data
Integration & Infrastructure
- Experience with messaging frameworks (e.g., JMS, MQ)
- Familiarity with market data feeds and downstream reporting systems
- Knowledge of Calypso upgrade and migration activities is a strong plus
Ways of Working
- Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery models
