As a Senior Commercial Analyst, you deliver remarkable financial and commercial analysis that has a strong, positive impact on Telstra’s key activities and initiatives. You build strong, lasting relationships with business unit partners and stakeholders by providing high-quality analysis, modelling, and risk assessment, around critical business issues. You are highly motivated and passionate about driving the positive financial direction of Telstra. Your role is pivotal in establishing commercial strategies that deliver profit growth and support Telstra’s strategic objectives.

What you'll do

As an Energy + Climate Senior Commercial Analyst you have an essential role in the development and execution of hedging strategies and tactics for all Telstra’s exposures pertaining to Electricity, Environmental and Futures.
The work you perform will be critical to ensure Telstra mitigates its exposure to energy market risks and delivers a competitive wholesale market cost. By leveraging your deep expertise and experience in data extraction and market research you will deploy the necessary models, reports and visualisation to assist with timely and accurate execution of trades.
Your exceptional interpersonal skills allow you to work with key stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Settlements and Treasury teams to assist them with data and reporting support. Fundamental to this role is the management and prioritization of activities related to hedging the energy market exposure. You play a crucial role in driving Telstra’s ongoing success by complying with Telstra Energy’s Risk Management Policy and Market Trading Policies.
Key Responsibilities

  • Source and analyse market data from internal and external sources (AEMO, Bloomberg, etc)
  • Present analysis of market data into simple visualisations that can be understood by senior executives
  • Build Financial Models to develop hedging strategies and tactics
  • Research market data and trends to provide recommendations of Hedging strategies and tactics
  • Monitor market conditions and movements, in order to develop recommendations on trade execution
  • Comply with Telstra Energy’s Risk Management Policy and Market Trading Policies
  • Work with Finance, Risk, Settlements and Treasury teams to ensure the efficient and effective execution of Electricity, Environmental and Futures trades

About You

To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related field such as Mathematics, Commerce, Engineering, Data Science or any other numerical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the Energy market
  • Experience in the utilities or financial derivative markets with an understanding of a trade life cycle.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, SQL, Python or any other analytic tools.
  • Ability to manage and work with stakeholders at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Analytical Mindset with an attention to detail.
  • Collaboration and Team values.
