Why Harvey

At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate — not incrementally, but end-to-end. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come.

This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point. With 700+ customers in 58+ countries, strong product-market fit, and world-class investor support, we’re scaling fast and defining a new category in real time. The work is ambitious, the bar is high, and the opportunity for growth — personal, professional, and financial — is unmatched.

Our team is sharp, motivated, and deeply committed to the mission. We move fast, operate with intensity, and take real ownership of the problems we tackle — from early thinking to long-term outcomes. We stay close to our customers — from leadership to engineers — and work together to solve real problems with urgency and care. If you thrive in ambiguity, push for excellence, and want to help shape the future of work alongside others who raise the bar, we invite you to build with us.

At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started.

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled lawyer to join our legal team as our first and foundational Australia-based in-house commercial lawyer. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel in New York, you will initially primarily interface with our Go-To-Market team to help ensure the fast, efficient execution of our agreements with customers. As we expand, you will recruit, lead and mentor a small legal team in Australia that will focus on supporting our Go-To-Market initiatives and associated issues.

What You'll Do

Generative AI has the power to greatly change the world and directly impact how things get done. Harvey is at the forefront of this change, and our mission is to make generative AI actionable and useful for our customers. This is a fast moving environment (we are a start-up!) that is serving some of the world’s most renowned law firms and professional organisations. And this role will put you in the center of all of this.

More specifically, you will:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial AI SaaS contracts and other technology and AI-related agreements

  • Help establish the legal function in Australia, laying down a strong substantive, organisational and relationship foundation for the legal presence in the region

  • Hire and manage others in the region as we expand

  • Provide training and develop resources in support of our sales and other cross-functional teams

What You Have
  • An experienced, qualified lawyer with 7+ years of commercial transactional experience gained in top-tier law firms and/or in-house roles. Skilled in negotiating SaaS and technology-related agreements, with a strong understanding of privacy, information security, and intellectual property.

  • Experienced in supporting Go-To-Market teams on a range of commercial contracts and related business initiatives.

  • Transactional background, including with technology, and/or IP licensing commercial agreements

  • Experience with managing teams and working internationally with US-based leadership is a plus

  • Ability to think creatively, function independently and work proactively in a fast-paced environment

  • Team-focused and collaborative work style; willingness to build expertise and solve new challenges in an evolving practice

  • Hyper-responsive and service-oriented attitude

  • Bonus qualifications include experience with AI, and a love for solving hard problems with a small tight-knit team

Additional Information
  • Location: Sydney, NSW (Hybrid with flexibility)

  • Work eligibility: Must have valid Australian work rights; Harvey does not currently offer visa sponsorship for this role

What We Offer
  • Be part of building something special as a founding member of our Sydney team

  • Structured hybrid working arrangement: 3 days in our Sydney office, 2 days working from home
