Job Summary
Job DescriptionThe Senior Corporate Accountant will provide technical accounting skills and expertise to fulfil the Telstra Group's internal and external financial accounting and reporting obligations, i n a complex accounting and regulatory environment.
The role will drive the decisive resolution of accounting queries of Business Units/Functions and Controlled Entities, the creation, maintenance and monitoring of group accounting policies, the monitoring of changes in the accounting environment and the reporting of significant accounting issues to the finance community and management.
Key responsibilities
- Provide quality accounting analysis and advice in accordance with applicable generally accepted accounting principles to the various business units and groups across Telstra in relation to business transactions and anticipated transactions
- To monitor the latest accounting developments both in Australia and overseas to determine their impact on the Telstra Group and communicate these developments throughout the Telstra finance community and to the Audit Committee
- To prepare, issue and maintain appropriate Corporate Accounting Policies for the Telstra Group in line with generally accepted accounting principals
- Ensure compliance with technical accounting and regulatory requirements by the Telstra Group
- Assist in the completion of internal and external group reporting obligations in accordance with applicable legislative requirements
- Identify interdependencies, resolve inconsistencies, and escalate as required
- Provide proactive analysis on potential business risks or abnormal occurrences in a timely manner
- Ensure reports are produced in a timely manner and are in accordance with prescribed processes, policy, statutory and agreed customer requirements
About you
To be successful in the role, you will bring skills and experience in:
- Full membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (or equivalent acknowledged in Australia)
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance and/or Accountancy
- Broad /senior manager experience in a chartered accounting or public accounting practice with focus on technical accounting and exposure to major companies, or extensive experience in a similar accounting role with a major company (i.e. focus on application of corporate accounting policies)
- Expert knowledge of A-IFRS, with focus on revenue recognition (IFRS 15) and lease accounting (IFRS 16)
- Knowledge of Australian Corporations Law and Australian Securities Exchange Listing Rules
- Passion for technical accounting and interpreting how Australian accounting standards should be applied to complex business arrangements
- Practical mindset and ability to understand and interpret complex commercial arrangements with the view to provide insights and apply accounting standards requirements
- Practice high integrity
- Work collaboratively to ensure the best/consistent outcomes, yet you are self-starter and work independently to provide required outcomes under tight deadlines
