We are seeking a talented individual to join our Marsh Group team supporting Marsh and Mercer Australia across the Pacific. This role will be based in Sydney or Melbourne (will consider applicants from other locations). This is a hybrid role that requires working at least three days a week in the office.

This is an opportunity for a senior regulatory litigation lawyer with specialist expertise in financial services law. You will leverage your specialist technical legal expertise and commercial acumen to provide strategic advisory and business-partnering support. The key focus for this role is on disputes and regulatory matters in the insurance and superannuation sectors.

Reporting to the Chief Litigation Counsel, Pacific, you will be responsible for providing advice on complex regulatory matters, assisting the business in responding to regulatory notices and inquiries, and managing litigation (including complex regulatory matters). You will collaborate closely with colleagues in legal and compliance, engage with key business stakeholders, and manage external counsel as required.

We will count on you to:

  • Support regulatory compliance by managing investigations and enforcement actions and advise on regulatory risks.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance on contentious and regulatory matters to senior leaders and the Board, ensuring alignment with business strategy and governance frameworks.
  • Represent the company autonomously where required in negotiations, mediations, and other dispute resolution forums.
  • Manage litigation and disputes, conduct investigations, provide advice on prospects, and develop strategies to resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective way.
  • Support initiatives to uplift organisational capability in managing litigation, disputes, and regulatory enforcement.
  • Develop and present training on key topics relevant to our business.
  • Contribute to the preparation and presenting of reports on the status and outcomes of litigation and regulatory disputes.
  • Demonstrate strong matter management skills: prioritisation, responsiveness, attention to detail, and sound judgment under time pressure.
  • Manage external service providers including external legal firms and experts.
  • Function independently and provide clear and concise advice to different stakeholders.

What you need to have:

  • Law degree and admission to practice as a solicitor and current practising certificate.
  • Minimum of 8 years post-admission experience.
  • Experience advising clients in a regulated industry or working with regulators, preferably in financial services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple cases or projects simultaneously.

What makes you stand out:

  • Experience in superannuation law or other financial services experience.
  • Experience working in a law practice in a disputes team.
  • Enjoys variety and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership and capability uplift experience, including supporting the team to build legal capability and consistent standards.
  • Ability to deliver clear guidance and training to stakeholders to enable better decision-making and reduce repeat issues.

Why join our team:

  • At Marsh, your work will be visible and valued—supporting market-leading businesses and high-impact initiatives for many of the top companies in Australia and globally.
  • You’ll be part of a close, tight-knit team with an excellent culture, alongside supportive colleagues who value collaboration and pragmatic problem-solving.
  • We offer hybrid working, with an expectation that you will spend at least three days per week in the office to support collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and team connection.
  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work, and supportive leaders.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients, and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
  • Marsh is committed to building an inclusive workplace where colleagues feel respected, supported, and able to do their best work. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
