Job Description

Please note this role is a fixed term contract (9-12 months approx)

The Data Analyst plays a critical role in supporting our enterprise data capability by bridging the gap between business needs and data solutions. As part of a key reporting initiative and the uplift of our strategic data platform, this role is responsible for translating complex business requirements into actionable data deliverables that provide meaningful insights and measurable business value.

This role will work closely with the Marketing team and a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation to
understand, document, and communicate data requirements within a cross-functional agile environment. Responsibilities include refining the product backlog, validating data outputs, mapping business solutions, supporting testing activities, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality data products that meet stakeholder needs.

Operating within a Continuous Delivery team, the Data Analyst will contribute to solving business challenges through data-driven solutions. Success in this role will require a strong understanding of business processes, the ability to map those processes to business-facing applications, and the analytical skills to identify and unlock the value of data within those systems. Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and core analytical capabilities—including data requirements gathering, backlog refinement, and testing—are essential. The Data Analyst will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and business representatives to deliver impactful and insight-rich data products.

YOUR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Data Analysis & Business Engagement

  • Conduct analysis of existing business processes, data sources, and applications to support data product delivery
  • Work closely with the Marketing team and key stakeholders to understand data and reporting needs
  • Partner with the Product Owner and Platform Manager to prioritise data features and enhancements
  • Elicit, document, and refine data requirements, transforming them into clear and actionable user stories
  • Facilitate backlog refinement and feature elaboration sessions to ensure shared understanding across the team
  • Identify business rules, data constraints, and data quality considerations
  • Lead data requirements walkthroughs with stakeholders to ensure alignment and traceability
  • Perform root cause analysis and provide data-driven recommendations for process and reporting improvements
  • Analyse and model business processes to inform data design and data pipeline development

Agile Ways of Working

  • Actively contribute to estimation, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner in maintaining and refining the product backlog
  • Coordinate acceptance and sign-off of data stories and reports with the Product Owner and stakeholders
  • Adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced agile delivery model

Data Delivery

  • Work with Subject Matter Experts, Developers, and Testers to define and validate acceptance criteria for all data stories
  • Collaborate with UX and visualisation teams on report/dashboard designs and wireframes
  • Review proposed data solutions to identify gaps or misalignments with business requirements
  • Support development and testing phases by providing clarification and guidance on data logic, business rules, and expected outcomes
  • Assist with testing activities across development (DEV), system integration (SYS), and user acceptance testing (UAT) environments
  • Map and model multi-system data flows and clarify interdependencies between source systems and reporting outputs
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and traceability throughout the delivery lifecycle

Qualifications

In addition to the core capabilities set out in TAL’s role requirements for this level role, you will need:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Data Analyst or Business/Data Analyst working on data and reporting initiatives
  • Strong experience with data-focused projects, including data requirements gathering, data mapping, data modelling, and data validation

  • Experience in working with or understanding data platforms, pipelines, and source systems
  • Strong understanding of business analysis techniques, including requirements elicitation, process mapping, workshop facilitation, and stakeholder management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders across both technical and business teams
