Senior Site Reliability Engineer - 18 months maximum term contract role

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at CMC Markets, you will work on platforms that support millions of trading decisions. .You will play a key role in improving reliability, availability, and performance across large-scale systems, ensuring customers can access markets when it matters most. Your work will be highly visible and meaningful, giving you a strong sense of contribution and pride in what you deliver.
This role offers rich opportunities to grow your technical capability across observability, automation, and modern infrastructure. By working closely with development teams, you will learn how to embed reliability early in the software lifecycle and reduce operational risk at scale.
Acting as a subject matter expert, you will guide best practices, lead post-incident reviews, and help define standards that improve long-term system resilience.

What you’ll be working on
- Improving reliability, availability, and performance of large-scale .NET and TypeScript applications
- Leading the rollout and adoption of OpenTelemetry for metrics, logs, and distributed tracing
- Maturing our observability standards, patterns, and best practices across engineering teams
- Acting as an SME, providing guidance and thought leadership on reliability, performance, and optimisation
- Building and maintaining automation for deployments, monitoring, and incident response
- Partnering with development teams to embed reliability best practices early in the SDLC
- Troubleshooting complex production issues across application, infrastructure, and network layers
- Defining and tracking SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets to support platform growth
- Leading post-incident reviews focused on learning, prevention, and long-term improvements
- Reducing toil by building tools, patterns, templates, and best practices for development and operations teams
- Creating scalable, reusable internal services leveraged by multiple teams
- Building dashboards, pipelines, templates, and tooling aligned with industry best practice
- Designing and managing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) environments using Terraform and related tools
- Integrating observability capabilities across services to enable proactive monitoring and incident prevention
What will help you be successful?
- Strong enterprise grade experience with C# and .NET, including ASP.NET and .NET Core, and the ability to write production-grade code that improves reliability and operability
- Senior-level experience supporting production systems in SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering roles
- Proven experience implementing OpenTelemetry and designing effective observability using metrics, logs, traces, and correlation
- Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Application Insights, or similar
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation
- Strong problem-solving skills and a calm, methodical approach to incidents, root cause analysis and production issues
- Ability to influence system design, deployment, and operational practices at scale, providing technical guidance and leadership
