Senior Director, Data Centre Operations – Australia

Job Description Summary

The Senior Director, Data Centre Operations owns customer impacting, day to day responsibility for the operations, maintenance and performance of the 18 data centres and 200+ FTE's in the country. The Senior Director is responsible for the day-to-day execution, capacity management, consistent response/structures and streamlined support.

As the Senior Director Data Centre Operations Australia, you will drive strategic planning and priorities for data centre operations, in alignment with our next gen platform strategy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and track delivery against KPIs, SLAs, and metrics (incl. performance, capacity, availability, budget)
  • Oversee on-the-ground incident response, problem resolution, and change management communicating closely with key customers about resolution to support Equinix customer experience
  • Establish critical business continuity plans, including design and implementation of disaster preparedness, detailed project management, and logistics coordination
  • Establish and track safety measures to ensure safety of front-line resources
  • Ensure consistency in experience and on-the-ground response across data centres in the country
  • Contribute to the centres of excellence as and when appropriate and implement policies and procedures to ensure global consistency and effectiveness
  • Contribute to and/or support other departments to achieve endorsed business objectives
  • Coordinate with global design and construction team to ensure global consistency and effectiveness
  • Lead a diverse team - shape a collaborative, transparent, and entrepreneurial culture, in tandem with the extended global operations leadership and the corporate leadership team
  • Motivate employees around shared vision and change story in line with our world-wide transformation agenda
  • Empower front line resources to meet customer needs through incentives and process

Profile Required

  • Demonstrable track record of data centre operations management and maintenance or similar (e.g. mechanical & engineering, facilities, operations engineering, critical infrastructure) leading a team of at least 80-100 people
  • Excellent experience in cross-functional management and in leading and operating in a matrixed environment
  • Substantial experience in optimising a growing and evolving business – leading a large organisation through a period of rapid growth, merger integration, or business transition
  • Strong focus on execution and results – establishing high standards for performance, setting goals and developing plans, following through and holding people accountable for results
  • Critical sustainability focus — understands how operational decisions affect energy, water and long-term environmental performance as a thought leader in this space
  • Proven ability to work as part of a regional (APAC) Operations leadership team against common goals
  • Demonstrable strength in HES leadership, with a record of improving safety outcomes and environmental performance in a live critical-infrastructure setting
  • Experience partnering with Compliance and Physical Security functions, including audit, certification, access control and site security operating rhythms
  • Ability to provide thought leadership, think strategically and effectively communicate vision and influence
  • Demonstrate and instill Equinix's culture and values
  • Adept at balancing intense short-term pressures with overall long-term goals
  • Strong intellect (ideally with a university degree) and financial acumen and ability to connect operational objectives to financial results
