Ankura is a team of excellence founded on innovation and growth.

This is an opportunity to join Ankura’s Sydney Transactions, Turnaround & Restructuring (TT&R) business, one of seven practices focused on client delivery across the firm. Ankura’s APAC TT&R practice launched in 2019 with an initial group of four senior practitioners from leading transactions and restructuring firms. Today, the team is complemented by more than 300 TT&R professionals globally and a further 2,000 professionals across the broader Ankura business—giving you the opportunity to combine the agility of a growing local team with the reach, resources, and connectivity of a global platform.

Following significant growth since 2019 and with ambitious plans, we are seeking a Senior Director to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Managing Director (Partner Equivalent), this role is suited to an entrepreneurial professional looking to accelerate their career in deals, take on meaningful responsibility, and help shape the next phase of growth in a high-performing practice. You will work alongside experienced colleagues on client engagements where your contribution will be visible and valued.

Role Overview

The Transactions business, which sits within the Transactions, Turnaround & Restructuring team, advises on middle-market and large-cap deals across mergers and acquisitions (M&A), debt advisory, and, at times, stressed and distressed M&A.

In Australia, we operate as a global boutique, combining international reach with high-quality execution and offering our team exposure to complex and diverse work. We have a strong track record achieving outcomes for founders and financial sponsors.

The successful candidate will bring strong lead advisory experience, commercial judgement, and the confidence to work closely with clients and senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities: What will your typical day look like?

1. Managing transaction execution end-to-end: You will support the Senior Managing Director and/or Managing Director with the delivery of transactions and work closely with key client stakeholders. You will play a hands-on role across both M&A and debt transactions from start to finish.

2. Mentoring and coaching: We have a strong associate and senior associate team. As a senior member of the team, you will help mentor, develop, and support junior colleagues, with the opportunity to shape team capability and contribute to a strong, collaborative culture.

3. Client management: You will be trusted to help manage senior client relationships in partnership with the Managing Director and Senior Managing Director and play an important role in delivering an exceptional client experience and repeat opportunities.

4. Building relationships and originating deals: You will be encouraged to develop and strengthen relationships with clients, prospective clients, and referrers. This role offers the opportunity to develop your origination skills, deepen your network, and contribute directly to the continued growth of the practice.

5. Collaborating on cross-border transactions: You will at times partner with global colleagues on cross-border deals and related business development initiatives, gaining exposure to a broad range of markets, clients, and opportunities across the wider Ankura platform.

As an entrepreneurial team, we value initiative, team collaboration, and a genuine desire to build. In return, you will have the chance to make a visible impact, take on increasing responsibility, and grow your career within a dynamic local practice supported by a global platform.

Requirements:

  • Approximately 6-7 years of professional experience in M&A or lead advisory.

  • Strong client and team management capabilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally within our business and externally with clients and referrers.

  • Authorised to work in Australia.
