The AH-64E Boeing Apache helicopter has been selected for the Australian Army and is joining our current Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) supported rotary wing fleet of Chinook medium lift and EC-135 training helicopters.
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior EHS Specialist to support the AH-64E Apache helicopter program embedded within the Commonwealth Attack Helicopter Systems Program Office (AHSPO). This position will be based at the Enoggera Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane, QLD and will require occasional trips to Townsville.
The Apache Senior EHS Specialist will fill the role as the WHS Manager in the AHSPO program office and is responsible for developing, planning, implementing and assessing / Managing Health, Safety and Environmental programs and processes for the Apache program to ensure regulatory compliance.

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior EHS Specialist to support the AH-64E Apache helicopter program embedded within the Commonwealth Attack Helicopter Systems Program Office (AHSPO). The Apache Senior EHS Specialist will fill the role as the WHS Manager in the AHSPO program office and is responsible for developing, planning, implementing and assessing / Managing Health, Safety and Environmental programs and processes for the Apache program to ensure regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Be an integral part of the Apache capability.
- Leverages Boeing WHS people, processes, tools and data, communities of practice forums and Boeing organisation safety SME for opportunities to enhance Apache Program WHS outcomes and management.
- Evaluates and provides advice for management of WHS hazards associated with introduction into service of Apache aircraft and supporting material and processes.
- Report to the BDA Apache Program Manager regarding the Commonwealth's safety system's compliance to meet Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) regulatory requirements for BDA embedded personnel.
- In conjunction with the Material Safety Engineer, acts as primary interface with regulatory agencies and AVNCOMD for Apache aircraft and supporting elements' WHS hazards.
- In parallel to Commonwealth's WHS processes, performs program reviews, recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence of incidents, and investigates incidents if requested by Aviation Command (AVNCOMD).
- Evaluates workplace hazards as required to support the co-located site EHS specialists.
- Provides WHS Change impact assessment input to Apache system changes across all aspects of the enterprise.
- Conducts education and training to support regulatory and business requirements for the Program.
- Evaluates impact and provides advice on new regulations and the likely impact to enterprise operations.
- Performs program reviews, investigates incidents and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence of incidents.
- Work Closely with the Test and Evaluation program and set up the Acquisition deliverables for transition into sustainment, under direction of AHSPO.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in Health, safety and Environment with at least 5 years of EHS experience in an operational environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated ability to perform with minimal direction and the ability to exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment;
- Thorough knowledge of Australian WHS and Environmental laws, regulations and reporting requirements.
- Experience in working within a customer focused environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ISO 14001 and 45001 standards;
- Strong time management skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet target dates in strong regulatory environment;
- Defence/aerospace industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience working within a highly regulated environment; and
- Ability to meet Defence Security and ITAR requirements.
Desirable
- Working knowledge or familiarity with Defence/Aerospace Industry.
