Power & Energy

SMEC is a global provider of engineering, environmental and construction services, consolidating all aspects of Energy and Renewables Infrastructure from planning to delivery. Our expertise includes grid connection studies, substation design, policy and sector planning, carbon services, load forecasting models, and long-term generation planning using simulation and dynamic programming techniques. We have delivered stand-alone and grid-tie photovoltaic and solar thermal projects, ‘water to wire’ services on mini and micro-hydro projects, geothermal power plants and generation facilities.

The Role

We are seeking to engage a Senior Level Engineer for our Power & Energy Team in ANZ. In this role you’ll be responsible for providing the design engineering knowledge and effective project management skills to support the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, undertaking varied Engineering tasks of limited scope and complexity

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage risk on substantial projects
  • Deliver best client outcomes which have provided cost savings
  • Effectively lead small teams and contribute to building the technical capability of others
  • Develop client relationships
  • Provide advice and undertake key complex technical tasks with a high degree of independence across a broad range of small, medium and some large projects
  • Successfully monitor and manage the scope and risk of multiple varying size projects and apply business systems
  • Prepare complex technical reports and prepare successful proposals on small, medium and some large projects
  • Utilise good time management skills with the ability to efficiently plan workloads and meet deadlines
  • Effectively work across a variety of projects learning and applying new skills and knowledge quickly and efficiently
  • Effectively manage client relationships and expectations
  • Provide supervision to other staff
  • Effectively engage key stakeholders to result in superior project outcomes which meet or exceed client expectations

About You

Suitable applicants will be/have:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Engineering
  • Relevant professional industry experience in design of Power & Energy projects
  • Ability to interpret and communicate information of a complex nature
  • Client service orientation
  • Proven ability to manage projects to scope, cost, time, human resources, communication, procurement, quality and risk.
  • Competent business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen
  • An understanding of the business/organisation/marketing context of business solutions
  • Well-developed consulting skills
  • Maintaining an industry awareness
  • Familiar with relevant Australian Standards and specifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Skills in undertaking a co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
