Retail Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank and Bankwest Retail - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.

Within Retail Technology, you’ll be joining our Credit Cards Crew and Consumer Finance Domain. The Credit Cards Crew has end-to-end responsibility for the Commonwealth Bank Credit Cards business. Our squads look after the development of the credit card products, acquisition, the growth of our portfolio, our loyalty program and end-to-end process improvement.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll drive the “Group” quality engineering strategy for our Crew. Overseeing multiple squads, advising & influencing senior leaders on our future strategy, and embedding quality engineering best practices. Cultivating a growth mindset by supporting creative & innovative ways of working, imparting you’re quality engineering expertise across the group practice to drive change and efficiency across engineering.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Have demonstrated experience in leading high-performing cross-functional teams with a solid automation background.

  • Are passionate about paving the way for our innovative engineers to design, secure & reliable software solutions, embedding the best tooling to accelerate automation and quality engineering.

  • Can work closely with Crew Tech Lead and Chapter Leads and deliver leadership to ensure that team members are assigned appropriately, and the skills mix meets current and future needs

  • Effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice.

  • Promotes open communication and create a safe working environment where our engineers’ voices are heard to achieve great outcomes for our organisation, our customers, and the community.

  • Encourages risk-taking and constructively challenges the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building diverse and inclusive teams.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • Deep understanding of quality engineering, tools and methodologies

  • C# .Net (Desirable), Java, Python, JavaScript

  • DevOps, CI/CD implementation – GitHub, and TeamCity

  • Web services, REST/SOAP/XML and API/Service based testing using tools such as POSTMAN and Blazemeter

  • Cloud – AWS preferred

  • Experience with ephemeral concepts and implementations (Containers/Dockers etc.)

  • Any experience with the following would be great - Software Development background, Credit card domain
