In this full-time role as the Senior Financial Accountant you will be responsible for supporting financial reporting to stakeholders including external regulators, internal business unit management and external audit relationships through strong balance sheet management, financial control and governance activities across the MMS businesses.  Additionally you will be responsible for month-end accounting, including journal processing and the review and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, including documentation of the accounting judgements applied to the treatment of various business transactions and resulting accounting impacts. 

You will also contribute to technical accounting advice and ensure the correct financial processing that supports day to day financial management for the respective MMS businesses is undertaken in the general ledger, recommend improvements to financial control and reporting frameworks and processes to support the efficient and effective preparation of financial statements for the MMS Group and its subsidiaries, and be responsible for intercompany transaction management and contribute to capital management and treasury and banking operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring MMS meets all its financial and taxation regulatory compliance requirements for its Group and Subsidiary entities on a timely basis, including GST, FBT, Company tax, ABS etc.
  • Preparation and ensuring that MMS financial statements disclosures and preparation satisfies all accounting standards and guidance, and is also best practice.
  • Month end close accounting procedures.
  • Completion and review of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, including proactive follow up on aged balances and/or reconciling variances.
  • Lead deep-dive review of accounting processes and use of accounting information systems within business operating segments to produce financial results. Implement new processes/change current processes to ensure efficient and accurate results are produced.
  • Providing relevant analysis and commentary regarding statutory results to support other financial reporting requirements and internal performance management (eg. Investor presentations, tenders, M&A activities).
  • Documentation of the relevant accounting policies and/or accounting treatments for the Group and its subsidiaries, and treatments are consistent applied.
  • Provide (or support the provision of) technical accounting advice to business unit management and senior leaders to ensure impacts of business transactions are clear and properly processed.
  • Assist the Group Taxation Manager with the preparation of the Group’s tax lodgement and compliance program as required.

You will bring:

  • 3-5 years Financial reporting and Accounting experience including in a corporate or professional services environment
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge including the application of IFRS, and relevant legislation as relevant to MMS businesses
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and operational processes and accounting systems/applications.
  • Experience with general ledger applications including JD Edwards (desired).
  • Commitment and proven ability to provide a high level of customer service
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with business managers and other senior leaders
  • Strong attention to detail, and reviews work to ensure completeness and accuracy of analysis, outputs and information provided to stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, proficient in Excel, and Word.
  • Leadership and coaching/mentoring of financial accounting team members
  • Relevant accounting, or related qualification and membership of professional Accounting bodies for chartered accountants
  • Other relevant qualifications of industry bodies/institutions.
