Job Description

  • Lead riskbased audit delivery while elevating the profile and impact of the Group Audit and Risk function across the Group. 
  • Coach Internal Audit teams to deliver highquality assurance, guiding pragmatic risk responses and partnering with senior leaders to strengthen governance.

The Senior Internal Audit Lead is responsible for elevating the brand and reputation of the Group Audit & Risk (GAR) function across the Group. 

In this role, you will support and, where applicable, lead the development and implementation of GAR’s strategic initiatives. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of assigned riskbased audit activities and for managing and coaching Internal Audit staff across the full audit lifecycle, including audit planning and execution, risk identification and assessment, reporting of audit findings and recommendations, and monitoring audit actions. 

You will bring a strong understanding of Group strategy and risk to guide management in the development of pragmatic and commercially reasonable management actions to address audit findings. You will also support the Audit and Risk senior leadership team in riskbased audit planning, delivery of assurance projects, reporting, stakeholder management, and quality assurance, in line with Qantas Group Audit and Risk audit procedures and standards. 

This role applies strategic and risk context when delivering audit activities and engaging with business stakeholders. 

You’ll have –  

  • Minimum 6 years experience in an internal audit role, demonstrating leadership in project delivery and client/business relationship management 
  • Degree in a Finance discipline with professional accounting qualifications (eg, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Certified Practicing Accountants of Australia) 
  • Undertaking or completed relevant post-graduate or further education (eg, Certified Internal Auditor) 
  • Demonstrated people leadership capability, including coaching, performance management, capability uplift and oversight of senior auditors/principal Auditors 
  • Proven audit project leadership, including setting audit scope, directing complex engagements, managing multi-stream deliverables and ensuring overall quality of audit outcomes. 
  • Experience and capability in IT audit is preferred, but not essential.  This includes evaluating IT general controls, application controls, cyber security, data governance, system change, and technology-enabled processes. 
  • Strong organisational and strategic planning skills, with the ability to manage an audit portfolio, allocate resources effectively and adjust priorities to meet organisational requirements 
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions, provide well-reasoned conclusions and guide the team through complex issues. 
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, communicate complex matters succinctly and deliver clear, executive-level reporting. 
  • Ability to oversee and review work relating to complex systems and processes, ensuring appropriate documentation, control evaluation, and alignment to audit methodology and standards. 
  • Expert ability to identify risks, assess control effectiveness, determine root causes and make strategic recommendations that drive business improvement. 
  • High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and flow-charting software, plus the ability to guide the team in emerging audit tools and data analytics approaches. 
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to lead a high-performing team culture, with demonstrated capability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
