Senior Legal Counsel, Corporate & Investments – 12-month role

Challenger’s Corporate & Investments Legal Team is a high-performing, collaborative group of senior lawyers who provide commercially driven, timely and high-quality legal support across our Funds Management and Life businesses. We operate in an open, collegiate environment where teamwork and autonomy go hand in hand.

This is a highly technical role, with a major focus on securitisation, fixed income (including whole loan transactions), capital markets and structured finance. The right candidate will bring deep expertise in these areas, along with the ability to deliver pragmatic legal advice in a commercial setting.

Although we are ideally seeking a candidate to work full-time, we are open to considering a four-day-per-week arrangement for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

This is an opportunity to join a respected legal team that values technical excellence, commercial acumen and a collaborative spirit.

  • Provide legal support on securitisation, capital markets and other structured finance transactions, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating transaction documents and managing external counsel.
  • Advise on a broad range of corporate transactions (including debt and equity capital raisings and M&A transactions) and related Corporations Act issues.
  • Offer legal advice across corporate contracts and regulatory matters, including monthly regulatory change updates feeding into Board reporting.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify, assess and manage legal and commercial risks.

About You

  • Minimum of 6 years PQE, with experience from a leading commercial law firm or in-house legal function, with experience in securitisation, capital markets or broader fixed income matters.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Corporations Act, including directors’ duties, related party transactions and trust law.
  • Demonstrated experience managing legal risk within a corporate or investment environment.
  • Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and a current Australian practising certificate.
