As Senior Legal Counsel, you will work on exciting and complex legal issues, with a focus on negotiating various types of agreements and overseeing litigation matters. You will be part of a collaborative and supportive legal team, while providing legal advice and risk assessments directly to Samsung’s stakeholders. In this role, you will work on a wide range of corporate/commercial, litigation and compliance matters to support innovative initiatives and to meet the day-to-day needs of various business divisions.

Role and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements on a wide range of initiatives, including master services agreements, SAAS and license agreements, and product terms and conditions 
  • Supervise and support junior lawyers and articling students on small claims court matters, and support the General Counsel with various litigation matters, including working with outside counsel on class actions
  • Assist General Counsel with product safety and regulatory matters including regulatory filings, regulatory responses and ad hoc requests
  • Conduct risk assessments, and develop risk management and mitigation strategies in both legal and compliance areas and reporting such to the Legal Department
  • Conduct corporate compliance investigations and advise on employment law matters
  • Provide support for additional corporate and commercial matters as required
  • Ensure appropriate reporting of legal and governmental issues or updates that could impact business operations

Skills and Qualifications

Requirements

Education:

  • Law degree from a Canadian school or a recognized international school
  • Called to the bar and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or the law society of another Canadian province

Experience:

  • 6 to 10 years of relevant experience practicing law at a law firm or as in-house counsel for a company
  • Experience in commercial litigation
  • Called to the bar and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or the law society of another Canadian province
  • Experience in privacy law and employment matters are an asset
