The role

As Senior Manager – Projects Stream at Clayton Utz, you will play a pivotal frontline role in shaping one of Australia’s most market-leading law firm practices.

Working closely with the Group Lead Partner of Projects, you will drive the strategic development, positioning and commercial growth of the Projects Stream. This includes overseeing an experienced team of Clients & Markets Managers who support our Construction, Real Estate, Environment & Sustainable Development (ESD), Energy and Project Finance practices. You will collaborate with senior leaders across the firm – including the Senior Managers of Transactions; Advisory, Risk & Regulatory; and Dispute Resolution Streams, as well as the Energy and Infrastructure Sector Leads – and report directly to the Chief Clients & Marketing Officer.

This role is not only about strategy and leadership, it is about delivering measurable growth by proactively identifying, shaping, and securing new revenue opportunities for the firm.

Key responsibilities:

In this position you will have the opportunity to work alongside industry leading partners to set and implement the strategic direction of the practice stream. Working with domestic and international clients, and across legal matters that help shape the Australian legal landscape, this highly sought after role will provide the variety and challenge you seek to further develop your strategic business development skills. 

You will:

  • Lead a team of practice-specific Managers (Construction, Real Estate, ESD, and Energy) and cross-practice Advisers and Coordinators, ensuring alignment to the Stream’s strategic and commercial objectives.
  • Proactively identify and pursue revenue-generating opportunities, from deepening relationships with existing clients, to spotting emerging service areas and cross-stream opportunities, and driving these through to conversion.
  • Develop and execute market-leading client engagement initiatives, positioning the firm as the trusted partner of choice for major domestic and international clients.
  • Bring market and industry intelligence to partners, enabling them to anticipate client needs and pursue opportunities ahead of competitors.
  • Shape and deliver business-critical initiatives that advance the firm’s strategy, ensuring that Clients & Markets is at the forefront of the firms strategic growth.
  • Collaborate with partners across the firm to ensure the Projects Stream are involved in high-value opportunities in the infrastructure, energy, and real estate markets.
  • Champion the vision of Clients & Markets within the firm, reinforcing the role of the team as a driver of growth and trusted advisor to partners.

Skills & Experience

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (either business/legal) coupled with legal/client development experience gained ideally from a professional services environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and proactively;
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate;
  • Strong project management skills and a proactive and pragmatic style;
  • Proven leadership skills;
  • People/team management; and,
  • Resilience and self-motivation, able to work autonomously with a large degree of flexibility and adaptability.
