Senior Manager, Commodities Market Risk

Our Traded Market Risk team provide Line 2 Oversight of Commodities Trading Book, and support the collection of market data and positions for the measurement of market risk exposures that feed regulatory and economic capital.

Our customers include Global Markets (Commodities, FX, Fixed Income and Rates), ASB Global Markets, PTBC Global Markets, Structured Asset Finance and Advisory & Equity Solutions and CommSec Capital Markets teams within Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M), ASB, Business and Private Banking (B&PB) and International Financial Services (IFS) business units.

As the Senior Manager you’ll support the implementation and communication of market risk management policies, to monitor market and liquidity risk undertaken by the commodities business against the limit framework, and advise the business on risk management strategies to minimise market and liquidity risk.

In any given week you will:

  • Participates in monitoring market and liquidity risks to ensure that they are within limit thresholds. Explains market and derivatives policies and processes to other departments.
  • Continuously assess the market risk profile. Applies sound understanding of treasury products, market risk matters, systems, practices & controls.
  • Implements complex and significant market and liquidity risk management projects. Contributes to developing action plans to resolve issues. Re-designs processes to better manage, measure, and monitor market and liquidity risks.
  • Coordinate the production of several month end reports for various committees and other ad hoc insights as required.
  • Communicates results and analysis of market risks to management and key internal stakeholders and actions those with the business unit
  • Develops market risk analysis; designs derivatives risk metrics and tools to help manage, measure, and monitor market and liquidity risks.
  • Review and analysis of stress testing results; evolving the design of traded and non-traded limit frameworks and risk measures covering risk sensitivity dimensions, liquidity risks, gross portfolio limits, VaR, stress test scenarios.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Experience and working knowledge in Commodities and/or Carbon is mandatory
  • Demonstrated experience in traded market risk (either Line 1 or 2) is essential.
  • An awareness of industry conditions and the competitive and regulatory landscape impacting capital markets businesses.
  • Demonstrate capability to make risk decisions independently with full consideration of commercial, customer and risk impacts.
  • Well-developed stakeholder and customer management skills and be able to communicate your thoughts and ideas clearly using written and verbal techniques
