The Compliance function consists of teams aligned to each business and support unit, as well as central teams, driving better compliance, regulatory and customer outcomes across the CommBank Group.

You will be joining the high-performing Line 2 Business Banking (BB) Compliance team at an exciting time, supporting CommBank’s ambitious BB growth agenda. In a newly established team seen as crucial business partner for BB and the wider Compliance function, you’ll report to the BB Compliance Executive Manager - Strategy, Framework and Execution and provide Line 2 Compliance advice and support, working across BB and closely with the broader BB Compliance, Central Compliance and Line 1 Risk teams.

Do work that matters:

The BB Compliance, Strategy, Framework and Execution team provides compliance and regulatory advisory support on obligations applicable across Business Banking profiles and managed within the Chief Controls Office. A core focus area across Business Banking is Open Banking and Consumer Data Right obligations, and in partnership with Retail Banking Services, this role will strengthen the existing compliance environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing extensive compliance advice in relation to Open Banking and Consumer Data Right obligations across Business Banking Lines of Business, including CommSec, Everyday Business Banking, and Business Lending.

  • Collaborating closely with Retail Banking Services to ensure business unit alignment across the Group.

  • Proactively advocating for continuous improvement, including ensuring recommendations and deliverables are sustainable and consistent for the Group.

  • Assessing Business Banking Incidents against regulatory obligations and working in accordance with the Compliance Framework.

  • Supporting engagement with key regulators (ACCC, OAIC), including drafting correspondence and exemption requests.

  • Reviewing customer communications (including CommBank website) and internal collateral, including customer consent flows, email notifications, Standard Operating Procedures, and educational communications.

  • Act as the subject matter expert for Open Banking and Consumer Data Right within Business Banking.

What successful candidates will look like?

We work in an outcomes driven environment, where the emphasis is on great teamwork to achieve results. You will bring compliance advisory experience, gained within financial services preferably in the commercial/business banking area. You will also be able to demonstrate effective stakeholder management, and an ability to apply complex legislative instruments.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law or a related legal discipline highly regarded.

  • High performance, high engagement and commitment to getting things done.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing non-financial (predominantly compliance) risk.

  • Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory obligations applicable to Business Banking.

  • Experience advising on Open Banking and Consumer Data Right is desirable, however not essential.

  • A proven ability to navigate and apply complex legislative instruments.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a succinct and clear writing style.

  • Ability to influence stakeholders, generate buy-in and drive improvement.

  • Ability to prioritise, schedule and meet challenging deadlines with autonomy and self-sufficiency, whilst working collaboratively in a team.
