About the team

Financial Markets Group (FMG) is responsible for implementing operations in domestic and foreign exchange markets, conducting research and analysis on developments in financial markets and coordinating relationships with international institutions.

FMG is creating a new Financial Markets Research and Modelling Hub as part of its strategy to deepen FMG’s research and modelling capabilities, particularly with respect to the analysis of financial market conditions, exchange rates and capital flows central bank balance sheet and policy implementation frameworks.
 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with FMG’s executive and other senior leaders to establish, staff and develop the strategy for the new Hub, and perform a key role in coordinating the development of the FMG’s broader strategic research agenda.

The new Hub will work closely with other sections with FMG as well as key internal and external stakeholders to deliver policy relevant research and analytical outputs in a timely manner.

The role requires a combination of strong subject matter expertise, exceptional leadership ability, including the capacity to supervise research staff, the ability to prioritise workflow in a rapidly changing environment, and highly developed communication and influencing skills. As a people leader, you will manage and guide your team, supporting and extending their development and capabilities.

About you

To see success in this role, we are seeking candidates who display:

  • Strong analytical and research skills, as well as expertise in topics of relevance to Financial Markets Group, including policy design and implementation, monetary policy transmission, financial conditions, exchange rates and capital flows relevant to monetary policy in Australia.

  • Leadership experience, with the capacity to build, lead and empower a high-performing team, develop and mentor talent, and execute workplans. Experience is supervising research staff will be highly regarded.

  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to synthesise a wide range of views into clear, balanced and actionable insights and communicate ideas clearly.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a dynamic environment and support departmental planning and reporting activities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote collaboration, analytical quality and harness diverse perspectives.

  • Ability to foster an open and dynamic team culture that catalyses collaboration and model behaviours aligned with the Bank’ values of promotion of the public interest, integrity, excellence, intelligent inquiry and respect. 

  • Excellent judgement handling sensitive or restricted information, in accordance with the RBA’s information security policies and code of conduct.

  • Postgraduate qualifications in economics, finance, ideally at the PhD level, or equivalent experience.
