Job Description

  • Lead the Group Audit assurance program across key Qantas portfolios, giving senior leaders and the Board clear visibility of risks and control effectiveness.
  • Deliver high‑quality audits and advisory work, driving governance improvements, coordinating combined assurance, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

The Senior Manager Group Audit supports the Head of Group Audit in overseeing the function’s strategy, planning, budget, quality, performance, and reporting. Working with the Head of Group Audit and a peer Senior Manager, the role manages the assurance framework and audit program for key business portfolios across Qantas Airlines, Jetstar, Loyalty, Corporate functions, and Risk.

The role ensures senior leaders, the GLT, and Board Committees have clear visibility of financial, operational, commercial, customer, and compliance risks by leading multiple audit, review, health check, and advisory projects. It provides independent assessments of internal controls across areas such as finance, operations, safety, environment, security, IT, cyber, privacy, systems, and culture, recommending improvements to strengthen governance and mitigate risk.

The position drives innovation in audit methods, embeds behavioural root-cause analysis, and works closely with internal and external assurance providers to deliver a combined assurance approach. It oversees third‑party auditors, ensures high‑quality and timely reporting, and monitors remediation effectiveness. The role also builds strong stakeholder relationships, leads an internal audit team, and fosters a positive, high‑performance culture while balancing assurance priorities across the assigned portfolio.

You’ll have – 

  • 10+ years’ experience in Internal Audit
  • Proven experience in managing and developing staff, both as a People Manager and as a Project Manager leading audit engagements from planning through to completion
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels, fostering a partnership approach to audit and risk management
  • Highly strategic thinking with the ability to understand and solve complex issues/problems
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise audit reports and confidently present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Extensive experience in conducting internal audit assurance and advisory engagements that focus on improving business performance, mitigation of risk (including fraud risk) and promote better practice.
  • Well-developed understanding of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a quality assured Internal Audit process.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex programs and ability to deliver results within a complex business environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing co-sourcing arrangements and ensuring the quality of third party deliverables.
  • A diverse leadership style that supports the development of talent throughout the Group Audit team and Qantas.
  • Experience in Aviation/Transportation/Mining/Oil & Gas or other high-risk industries where control effectiveness is regularly tested will be highly regarded
  • Experience in auditing AI and data risks, and in leveraging AI and data analytics to enhance audit quality and insight, will be highly regarded
