The Department

The International Department plays a central role in advancing the Reserve Bank’s global engagement. It leads the Bank’s participation in key international economic and financial forums, manages strategic relationships with major institutions abroad, and supports Australia’s interests through its overseas offices. The Department provides senior leadership with insights on global financial market developments and oversees the stewardship of Australia’s international reserve holdings, including foreign exchange and gold. Its work ensures the Bank remains connected to global markets and well positioned to navigate international economic developments.

The RBA also contributes to international efforts to address challenges facing the global economy and financial system. This includes active membership of global and regional forums, bilateral relationships with other central banks, and the provision of technical assistance - an important part of the Bank’s engagement with partners across the Asia‑Pacific region.

The Role

As a Senior Manager in the International Department, you will oversee the RBA’s engagement with the Asian Pacific region (including the South Pacific) and lead the Bank’s broader technical assistance program. As part of the Department’s senior leadership team, you will also contribute to its strategic direction.

About You:

Given the nature of the work, we are seeking experienced leaders who have:

  • an understanding of the economic and financial issues facing the South Pacific, especially correspondent and retail banking issues

  • an understanding of the varied economies of the broader Asian Pacific region

  • working knowledge of global financial architecture and international relations

  • considerable experience in the provision of advice, as well as the ability to influence others

  • experience leading, developing, and motivating a unit and/or teams, and coaching managers, as well as ownership of the execution of functional strategy

  • excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse and cross-cultural set of stakeholders externally and internally

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, or international relations, or equivalent experience.

Note: Travel is required, as is occasionally working irregular hours, owing to the international aspect of this role. The successful applicant must be an Australian Citizen to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance which is a key requirement of this role.
