The role

We are looking for a Senior Manager to lead and manage credit risk for new and existing customers. You will develop credit risk strategies, ensure funder requirements, and credit policies are met, and keep risks within acceptable limits. Reporting to the Head of Credit and Portfolio Management, you will work closely with Credit Operations and Sales to balance growth with risk management. You will lead and coach a team of credit analysts, fostering a high-performance culture and strong team engagement. As a credit risk expert, you will also oversee the ongoing review and improvement of credit risk processes and data sources.

What you'll be doing
  • Oversee credit risk settings for all originations, ensuring careful evaluation of new and existing credit applications.
  • Develop and implement credit policies and strategies to keep risk within the organisation’s appetite.
  • Manage, monitor, and enhance credit scorecards.
  • Create, test, and roll out credit strategies for new credit products and services.
  • Use Credit Risk reports and data to guide decisions and actions, knowing when enough data is sufficient.
  • Model the expected impact of changes on key business metrics.
  • Lead and mentor a team of credit risk analysts, conducting performance evaluations and promoting a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Motivate the team to excel and foster curiosity.
  • Provide clear guidance to project teams and analysts to support credit risk initiatives.
  • Proactively support key contributors, identify and remove obstacles, and lead by example.
  • Present recommendations with supporting rationale to the Credit Risk Steering Committee for approval.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Credit Operations, Commercial, Sales and Marketing, to ensure alignment of credit risk strategies with business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Prospa’s policies on operational, credit, financial, reputational, and compliance risks.
  • Help define the Risk Appetite Statement and ensure we remain within appetite.
  • Identify new risks, report them, and ensure controls are implemented to mitigate them.
What you'll need to succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business, or related field.
  • 7–10 years’ experience in credit risk management, including lending, credit models, and strategies.
  • Experience in product origination and credit risk process simplification is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end credit risk management and application origination.
  • Knowledge of credit risk regulations in Australia and/or New Zealand.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to Identify data trends and ask the right questions.
  • Strategic thinker balancing growth and risk mitigation.
  • Strong decision-making and judgment in complex credit risk scenarios.
  • Adaptable to rapid change while focusing on multiple priorities.
  • Proven leadership and team management with influence skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, able to present complex concepts clearly to varying audiences.
  • Independent, innovative, and willing to challenge the status quo.
