Job Description

The Senior Manager, Technology – Operations Planning is a strategic leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the technology roadmap across a portfolio of products and their underlying systems. This position brings together the operations planning, workforce planning, and data business areas to facilitate technology-enabled transformation, leading Technical Product Owners and their squads, and ensuring alignment with long-term goals and the broader technology strategy.

The portfolio includes legacy platforms that are decades old and due for modernisation, alongside emerging AI and automation opportunities that will reshape how these business areas operate. You'll report to the Head of Technology, Airline Operations, and be accountable for delivering a roadmap that is secure, resilient, and commercially sound.

The role involves close collaboration with senior stakeholders across the Qantas Group, including Executive Managers, Heads of, Product Owners, Project Delivery and technical teams to define, assess, and prioritise product strategies and delivery plans. A key focus is ensuring products are secure, resilient, and meet service levels by design.

The Senior Manager Technology also plays a critical role in rebuilding and energising a team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture. With a customer-centric mindset, this leader drives continuous improvement across cross-functional teams.

Critically, this role is about transformation, not maintenance. You will lead the technology function for large-scale system implementation, AI and automation opportunities, while supporting the ongoing management of Airline Operations Technology.

You’ll have: 

  • 8+ years leading technology in large enterprise environments.
  • Led complex legacy modernisation in critical sectors (e.g., airlines, defence, healthcare).
  • Skilled at stakeholder management across business and technical areas.
  • Strong commercial and partner management skills.
  • Financially astute with emphasis on business results.
  • Proficient in negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Experienced in software delivery, digital transformation, and service management.
  • Knowledgeable in resilience, cybersecurity, and data privacy.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving, people leadership, and Agile coaching abilities.
