The Reserve Bank of Australia is looking for a Senior Network Engineer with great Cisco Networking and Security hands-on experience who are keen to develop their infrastructure, cyber security, automation and cloud credentials.
The Bank is currently on the journey to refresh building network infrastructure service offerings, and your skills and experience will be used and uplifted to support these key next generation networks services.
This is a fixed term contract running to March 2027.
Objective
- Provide expert services in relation to LAN, Security and Wireless network infrastructures in a greenfield site, more specifically design, document, implement, and test the Bank's network infrastructures.
About the Role
- Network Architecture and Design: Focused on LAN/WLAN solutions aligned with business needs.
- Project Planning and Coordination: Lead LAN/WLAN deployments, ensuring alignment with timelines and quality standards.
- Implementation and Deployment: Oversee installation and configuration of LAN/WLAN hardware and software.
- Performance Testing and Optimisation: Ensure reliability and performance of LAN/WLAN systems.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of LAN/WLAN designs and configurations.
- Training, BAU Handover and Initial Support: Provide guidance and support for networking technologies post-deployment.
About you
- Demonstrated advanced operational knowledge of networking systems and software covering Cisco Local Area Networks (LANs), Security (Firewalls) and Wireless technologies.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco LAN/Security/WLAN infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Wireless network design and deployment, including site surveys, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Proven ability to design and deploy end-to-end LAN/Security/WLAN infrastructure in greenfield office environments.
Good to Have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Wide Area Networks (WANs), SD-WAN, and cloud networking (Azure).
- Extensive security infrastructure exposure including Cisco ASA/FTD.
- Exposure to systems/virtualisation infrastructure.
- Experience with F5 (LTM, GTM, BIGIQ) and load balancing technologies.
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Ansible, Git.
- Scripting experience (Python or similar) for network automation.
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools (Statseeker, Infoblox).
- Experience in writing policies, procedures, and support documentation.
- Familiarity with protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
- Understanding of revision control/configuration management systems.
- Advanced knowledge of load testing, capacity management, and performance monitoring systems.
- Strong communications (data/voice/video) infrastructure experience.
- Understanding of network tools such as Cisco DNA Centre for LAN/WLAN management.
Qualifications
- Industry accreditations (Cisco Wireless, CCNP, CWNP, ITIL) maintained or in progress.
- Tertiary qualifications in IT, networking, or related disciplines.
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyse complex network issues and develop effective solutions.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CWNP, or equivalent are preferred.
Your team
You will report to the Network Services Project Team Lead, within the Network Services team. The Network Services team is part of the Infrastructure Services section of IT.
As part of the team, you will provide expert services in relation to a network modernisation project, while providing a service-oriented approach.
