Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer who specialises in Observability, primarily focused around the open-source Grafana observability stack. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing the lifecycle of our observability platform, ensuring robust monitoring, logging, tracing and profiling for our applications running on Kubernetes. You will contribute to the architecture, implementation, and continuous improvement of our observability pipeline, enabling teams to monitor and optimise system performance efficiently.

What You'll Do
  • Architecture & Management: Architect, implement, and manage an observability stack based on Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, and related technologies within Kubernetes.
  • Instrumentation & Tooling: Implement OpenTelemetry within application codebases and manage OpenTelemetry tooling and collector services.
  • Coverage & Reliability: Ensure comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing coverage for microservices and Kubernetes clusters while scaling the platform for multi-tenancy and reliability.
  • Dashboards & Incident Response: Collaborate with development and platform teams to build actionable dashboards, alerts, and automated incident response workflows.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Automate and manage observability infrastructure using Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hybrid & Cloud Integration: Integrate observability tooling across cloud environments (AWS, GCP) and on-premise infrastructure as required.
  • Governance & Security: Maintain security and compliance standards, focusing on auditability and data integrity across the stack.
  • Team Enablement: Support and mentor engineering teams in adopting best practices for instrumentation, monitoring, and root cause analysis.

What You'll Bring
  • Experience: 4 + years of experience in platform engineering or cloud infrastructure management.
  • Grafana Stack: Hands-on experience with the open-source Grafana ecosystem, specifically Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Prometheus.
  • Kubernetes & Containers: Experience managing observability for containerised applications running on Kubernetes and Docker.
  • OpenTelemetry & Pipelines: Experience implementing OpenTelemetry instrumentation and managing observability pipelines in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Practical experience using Terraform and Helm to provision and manage infrastructure.
  • SaaS Observability Platforms: Familiarity with SaaS-based observability platforms such as New Relic.
  • CI/CD & Scripting: Proficiency in scripting or programming (Go, Python, Node, or Shell) and experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, TeamCity).
  • Cloud & Networking: Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, networking protocols, and security concepts in AWS or GCP.
  • Qualifications & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and/or relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS or GCP Architect tracks).

Don't check every box? Apply anyway!

We know tech stacks evolve and no candidate has experience with every single tool. If you have strong engineering fundamentals and experience in the core areas of platform and observability, we’d love to hear from you.
