Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant - Budegting and Forecasting in Sydney to lead and coordinate project financial activities across all phases of project delivery and data centre development, providing robust oversight of expenditure, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control. The role serves as a key business partner, facilitating strong collaboration and information flow between Finance and Project Delivery stakeholders. 

What will you do: 

  • Manage all project accounting activities, including monthly project journals, accruals, cost adjustments and reallocations, budget transfers, and project financial close 
  • Coordinate and support day-to-day project-level financial transactions, including project setup, cost code maintenance, progress claim reconciliations, procurement support, and invoice payment workflow approvals 
  • Maintain project master data across all relevant systems, including project codes, project-level cost codes, and associated general ledger accounts 
  • Perform monthly reconciliation and reporting of actual project expenditure and commitments against approved project budgets 
  • Lead monthly project budget reviews with Project Managers and provide expenditure reforecasts as inputs into month-end reporting processes 
  • Prepare and deliver project-level capital expenditure forecasts as part of the annual corporate planning process 
  • Collaborate with the Fixed Assets team to ensure work-in-progress balances are reconciled monthly and transferred to the Fixed Assets Register for timely depreciation 
  • Partner with project delivery teams to establish and maintain compliance with financial policies, procedures, and governance requirements 
  • Act as a key liaison between Finance and the business for project accounting matters, including capital expenditure forecasts for insurance premiums, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reporting, and internal and external audit requirements 
  • Undertake other ad hoc duties as assigned by the manager 

About you 

  • Advanced Excel and SharePoint skills with strong technical acumen, including proficiency in macros, power automate, power query and power BI 
  • Confident communicator who can challenge, influence and explain financial outcomes clearly to non-finance stakeholders 
  • Proven experience in financial modelling, forecasting, and budgeting 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple activities and competing priorities simultaneously 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with Project Managers in a cross-functional environment 
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage conflicting demands effectively 
  • Exposure to AI tools and technologies, with a willingness to adopt new ways of working 
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to perform in a fast-changing environment 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years’ relevant experience across the full project lifecycle, including feasibility, budgeting, forecasting, transactional processing, and financial close 
  • Proven experience in a broad range of project accounting and transactional activities 
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline 
  • CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) preferred 
  • Exposure to planning system such as Adaptive Planning is favourable
