We are looking for a Senior Security Engineer - Cloud Data

Total Compensation between: $290,000 - $324,000, which includes a fixed annual salary between $200,000-$225,000 (including superannuation), employee equity plan grant & world class benefits.

The Senior Security Engineer (Cloud Data) is responsible for protecting our organization’s cloud environments with a strong emphasis on data security. This role is vital to protect our brand and safeguard the sensitive information of Rokt and its customers, managing consumer privacy risks, and maintaining compliance with evolving legal and business requirements.

You will ensure appropriate controls are embedded across the lifecycle of our heterogenous cloud assets, in a primarily AWS environment with expansion into GCP. This will include security of network design and infrastructure, data encryption (at-rest and in-transit), data discovery, classification, retention and exfiltration controls. You will productize secure cloud deployment patterns for consumption by software development and cloud infrastructure teams, for workloads that include web, APIs, and backend AI/ML engines.

This position requires a highly skilled professional with technical expertise in a range of cloud security functions, with a focus on lower-level cloud primitives such as VMs and containers. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure, software development, and legal departments, to ensure data protection is embedded across the organization’s cloud operations. As part of the Product Security function, you will establish strategic and technical solutions for managing cloud security risk while enabling secure, efficient, and compliant use of data assets.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about protecting cloud assets, this role offers an exciting opportunity to significantly enhance our organization’s cloud security posture.

About the role:

  • Design, implement, and manage solutions to continuously assess, monitor, and enhance the security posture of the organization’s cloud assets.
  • Integrate with engineering teams to leverage open source and cloud primitive technologies in a secure way, without building a reliance on expensive and restrictive cloud services.
  • Develop data security posture management (DSPM) & data loss prevention (DLP) controls for cloud data, inhibiting the ability of attackers to exfiltrate sensitive data from our production environments.
  • Advise on and develop strategies for data lineage, anonymization, tokenization, and governance.
  • Work with engineers to ensure they maintain accurate metadata and classify data to support appropriate protection and use. Help build and manage data catalogs to enable efficient discovery, governance, and management of data assets.
  • Ensure appropriate data access logs are available and accessible to investigate and respond to data-related incidents, misconfigurations, or non-compliances.
  • Stay informed on trends and emerging technologies in cloud security, privacy, and regulatory environments. Provide recommendations to engineering teams on evolving the organization's cloud security capabilities.

Requirements

About you:

  • 5+ years of experience in cyber security, cloud security, or a related role with a focus on security in an IaC/DevSecOps environment.
  • Expertise in AWS infrastructure and security. Knowledge of GCP would be an advantage.
  • Preference to develop solutions yourself with a builder mentality.
  • Experience working with open source cloud management tools and container platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Proficient in networking fundamentals as they pertain to cloud environments.
  • Proficient in encryption technologies and key management (e.g., AES, RSA, TLS, HSMs).
  • Knowledge of data governance processes, including data lineage and retention.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting or programming for automation and cloud security tasks (e.g., Golang, Python, Bash).
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams to develop cloud security solutions.
  • A proactive and analytical mindset for identifying risks, solving complex problems, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
