About this role
As a Senior Software Developer, you are responsible for the analysis, design, development and support of applications to support a range of business needs.
You provide thought leadership on how best to maximise the use of bespoke software so that nib is able to have a healthy return on investment through software solutions are cost effective, modern and fit for purpose.
Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with business analysts, UX designers, architects, and key stakeholders to ensure applications align with business and technical requirements
Champion quality throughout the software development lifecycle, continuously seeking opportunities to improve maintainability and performance
Embed security best practices across all assets, proactively identifying and addressing vulnerabilities
Respond to production issues within SLAs and work with IT teams to implement effective monitoring, logging, and reporting
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support ongoing system operations
Ensure robust disaster recovery provisions and participate in regular DR testing
Support and improve production processes, including change management and release coordination across environments
Automate and streamline non‑production release processes, ensuring adherence to organisational change policies
About you
We’re seeking a developer experienced in modern web frameworks like React/NextJS and skilled in languages such as Ruby, C# or Java. You’ll design and build scalable applications, applying solid software engineering principles and implement persistent distributed data storage with strong knowledge of relational databases like Postgres or SQL Server coupled with event-based data transfers.
You bring an architectural mindset and a clear understanding of modern application patterns, delivering solutions that are secure, maintainable and future focused. Along with this you’ll demonstrate great communication, collaboration, value-based ethics and in general a pragmatic “keep things moving” ethos.
You also champion best practice engineering—automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery—helping to drive quality and continuous improvement across the team.
You are able to mentor and coach less experienced developers plus champion continuous improvement within the team.
Furthermore, we’re looking for:
Degree qualification in relevant IT discipline (Such as Computer Science or Information Systems)
Ability to take ownership, prioritise, meet deadlines and escalate
Strong business acumen, finding pragmatic solutions to problems and raising opportunities
Experience with ORMs such as Active Record / Seqel / Entity Framework (desired)
Experience with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB (desired)
Exposure to automated testing and mocking frameworks (desired)
Exposure to Scrum or other Agile development methodology (desired)
Experience writing native JavaScript (desired)
Experience with JavaScript frameworks like React, AngularJS and Ember.js (desired)
Exposure to development of mobile applications (desired)
