Qantas Loyalty is a high performing business and has a history of launching exciting new brands and services that make a difference to its millions of Frequent Flyer and Business Rewards members. Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Business Rewards remain at the core of the program, while the business has evolved to include several new ventures and other businesses such as Qantas Money, Qantas Insurance and Qantas Hotels & Holidays. 

As a Senior Backend Engineer you’ll be reviewing requirements, specifications and technical design documents. You’ll manage programming task schedule updates and coordinate with multiple teams. Bug fixes and maintenance of the existing systems which are deployed on Cloud server providers. Identify, analyse and correct common issues in backend REST services, such as performance issues, and downstream service failures. Deliver high quality, robust, secure and maintainable code 

In this role a typical day may involve discussing functional requirements directly with various domain stakeholders and implementing APIs to communicate these requirements, building dashboards to monitor the health of a server and writing automated tests that validate backend service functionality. 

You’ll have: 

  • Proven experience in developing, deploying, debugging and testing backend cloud applications 
  • Good technical skills and demonstrable knowledge of at least one backend programming language Kotlin / Java. 
  • Confidence in balancing both technical and communication skills, with the ability to adjust to your audience. 
  • Attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset. 
  • Be comfortable learning and adapting to cross functional requirements from various domains 
  • Some of the technologies you’ll be working with: 
  • Java & Kotlin, Ktor, Spring Boot 
  • AWS (EC2, ECS, Lambda, ELB, S3, SQS, RDS, DynamoDB, Cloud Watch, Cloud Formation, Autoscaling) 
  • Splunk 
  • Git, Github Actions
