About AI Paralegal - Pathways

AI Paralegal - Pathways is a member of the ATI group of companies - the leading provider of Legal Practice Management Solutions in the world. Over a 30-year period we've expanded across Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Poland and New Zealand and support more than 70,000 lawyers and their staff in small and medium sized law firms. We owe our success to our curiosity and commitment to our guiding purpose, to ‘Help lawyers who help people’.

Pathways is part of LEAP’s next generation of AI initiatives - focused on helping law firms manage matters with greater confidence, consistency, and efficiency. Built on decades of legal domain knowledge and real-world workflows, Pathways turns legal expertise into practical, step-by-step guidance and suggestions embedded directly into LEAP.

Legal work follows patterns. Matters progress through familiar stages, whether it’s family law, conveyancing, or another practice area. But today, lawyers and support staff still rely heavily on memory, checklists, and experience to know what should happen next. Steps can be missed, work can be delayed, and best practice can vary from person to person.

This is the problem that Pathways is here to solve.

Pathways powerfully combines structured legal workflows with AI-driven decision support. It draws on existing AI tools alongside deep legal expertise to provide suggestions that are practical, relevant, and grounded in how law firms actually operate.

Pathways is not about replacing lawyers or rigidly enforcing processes. It’s about supporting legal professionals with intelligent guidance, helping them work more efficiently, adapt to change, and deliver better outcomes for their clients.

What you'll do

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you’ll join a small, high-trust team taking an AI capability from Proof of Concept into a production-ready feature embedded directly into LEAP. You’ll work closely with legal experts and the AI Paralegal group to turn real legal workflows into smart, practical suggestions that support lawyers through the lifecycle of a matter.

You’ll be hands-on across the stack, shaping core architecture, building and iterating on features, and embedding the capability into LEAP based on direct client feedback. This is not a role with fixed specs or a linear roadmap – you’ll help define what gets built, test ideas with customers, and adapt quickly as insights emerge.

This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys early-stage problem solving, thrives in changing environments, and wants real ownership over what they build. You’ll have the freedom to experiment, influence direction, and help shape a foundational part of LEAP’s future AI platform.

If you’re excited by ambiguity, curious about applying AI in meaningful ways, and motivated by building products customers actually use, this role is for you.

To make this happen, you will:

  • Write production code across the full stack – from AI agent orchestration to frontend UI
  • Contribute to architecture and technology decisions – including which AI agent frameworks to use
  • Work directly with customers and legal experts to understand workflows and build solutions that actually help
  • Partner with product and design to define features and user experiences
  • Build prototypes quickly, iterate based on feedback, and ship features that deliver real value
  • Navigate ambiguity and uncertainty with confidence – this is early-stage, fast-moving work
  • Set high standards for code quality and help establish engineering best practices

What you'll bring

You’ll need 5+ years of commercial experience in full-stack web development, along with:

  • Front End: JavaScript, TypeScript, React or similar
  • Backend: Strong knowledge of database systems and data modelling, as well as at least one backend language or platform
  • AI/Agents: Curiosity and willingness to work with emerging AI agent frameworks
  • You can contribute towards software architecture and make thoughtful design decisions in an evolving, uncertain environment
  • You know what good looks like when building great software products from scratch

You are the type of person who

  • Thrives in ambiguity and early-stage environments. You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and iterating based on feedback
  • Thinks about the user with every technical decision. You talk to customers, understand their workflows, and build solutions that actually solve problems
  • Writes pragmatic and simple code that achieves the desired commercial outcome. You understand the trade-offs between quality and velocity and strike the right balance for an early-stage product
  • Asks questions relentlessly. You're hungry to understand the "why" behind what we're building and challenge assumptions when needed
  • Is clear and concise in verbal and written communication
  • Believes they can build world-class legal AI. You're excited by the challenge of creating genuinely intelligent, proactive software that transforms how lawyers work
  • Wants the startup experience without the financial risk. You want to build something from zero with autonomy and ownership, backed by real resources

LEAP is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application.

Why join LEAP?

  • Lightning-in-a-bottle opportunity. Ground-floor, founding team role building a new product with massive potential. All the excitement of a startup with the budget and de-risking of a global company

  • Flexible and hybrid working. We'd like to find this person in Sydney, but we want you to work in a way that suits you
  • Grow with us. As an early team member member, you'll  have opportunities to grow into leadership roles as the team and product scale. Our founder Christian Beck has been building legal tech businesses for over 30 years and knows how to scale companies
  • Have fun with us. Celebrations. Socials. Sports teams. Access to sailing and yacht events.
  • Access to LEAP Home - a program unique to LEAP to support you in buying your primary residence.
  • Your well-being matters - enjoy an additional paid wellbeing day every year, free platinum Fitness First gym membership and weekly massages in the office. Plus catered lunch and breakfast every week, and a professional barista
  • Modern, evolving tech stack. Built on serverless frameworks and modern tools: React, Next.js, Drizzle, Neon PostgreSQL, deployed on Vercel. We're evaluating AI agent frameworks and other emerging technologies – you'll help decide what we use
