Purpose of your role

The Senior Software Engineer role is responsible for delivering high quality code in a timely manner while leading and working with the engineering managers to design solutions as appropriate. Working in an agile environment you will provide technical leadership and provide senior technical expertise and support while delivering quality software. On a day to day basis the Senior Software Engineer is actively helping lead the continuous improvement of our technical delivery and agile processes while positively leading and contributing to discussions and team dynamics.

The Senior Software Engineer will proactively help push the technical standards and quality of the team forwards. The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for delivering high quality application, automation and testing code in accordance with industry best practice and OFX guidelines.

This exciting new position involves becoming an integral part of our agile team dedicated to crafting and overseeing the heart of OFX. You'll contribute to impactful engineering and product initiatives, focusing on core capabilities like FX and treasury services.

Where required, the Senior Software Engineer will take on the technical leadership of a piece of work by performing the function of a technical lead on a task. 

What you do

  • Work closely with the solution and application architects, help improve our coding practices while delivering code and participating in code reviews.
  • Ensure code is efficient and adheres to OFX coding standards and guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that our capability and expertise continue to evolve by motivating the teams and promoting a collaborative working environment.
  • Identify complex areas of code that require refactoring and technical debt and ensure these are addressed as appropriate.
  • As part of an agile team assist outside of your core skills including deployments, QA and level 3 support when appropriate.
  • Actively provide appropriate leadership as part of the product development team including mentorship and coaching.
  • Work collaboratively within the agile team to deliver user stories. Owning stories to ensure they meet all functional and non-functional acceptance criteria.
  • Work with the solution and application architects to create solutions and conduct spikes when required.
  • Participate in design reviews and proof of concepts.
  • Maintain consistent and constant communication with stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

Valuable Experience

  • Demonstrated experience developing software. We’d like you to come equipped with expert knowledge in  C# and .NET (Core and Framework).
  • Extensive experience with commercial software development required.
  • Experience designing, building, and working with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience building and running distributed systems
  • Experience operating services on serverless or containerized environments
  • Good understanding of cloud-native application architectures (we use AWS)
  • Knowledge of the client/server technology stack and tools (HTTP, Auth, Timeouts, Retries)
  • Extensive experience with relational databases like SQL Server or Postgres.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture and systems
  • Excellent understanding of Agile development methodology and development practices such as TDD, Scrum, Kanban etc.
  • Extensive experience with unit testing and acceptance criteria frameworks
  • Experience with architectural design patterns and data modelling and design

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation/CDK/Terraform) and DevOps practices
  • Experience working with NoSQL storage solutions like DynamoDB
  • Experience with Software as a Service (SaaS) product development
  • Knowledge of cross-border payments and systems
