Job DescriptionHow we work
We believe in automation-first, programmatic solutions, and reusable design. Our team steps back to see the big picture, but also rolls up our sleeves to deliver robust, scalable systems. We value holistic thinking, but also the ability to execute and iterate quickly, drawing on the collective strengths of Wise engineering.
As Wise grows, so do the expectations for resilience and reliability. We continuously iterate on our services, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use. We’re looking for an engineer who can analyse complex requirements and deliver simple, effective solutions—helping our teams achieve our mission with speed, confidence, and a culture of continuous improvement.
What will you be working on?
This is a role with real impact and plenty of room for creativity, where you'll help solve important challenges at scale. You will:
Build better incident response tools. You'll design and develop practical, automated solutions - using AI and LLMs where it makes sense - to help engineers respond to incidents faster and with less stress.
Strengthen our defences. You'll help set up and run our Chaos Engineering practice, running safe experiments to find weaknesses before they become real problems. You'll also organise Disaster Recovery drills and Game Days to make sure we're ready for anything.
Improve how we measure and understand availability. You'll work on our observability and monitoring systems, making it easier for engineers to see what's happening in production and spot issues early. Your work will help us get clear, actionable data on system health and reliability.
What do you need?
We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!
Hands-on Software Engineering experience – you will be building the tools and systems that underpin Wise's resilience. While much of our backend and tooling are in Java and Python, experience in any language is valuable.
A passion for SRE principles and a drive to automate and eliminate toil.
Experience of owning services within a containerised, microservices environment.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).
Strong prioritisation skills and an ability to communicate and influence effectively.
