Job Summary:

The Network & Systems Engineer is responsible for availability, performance and security of the InterSystems corporate infrastructure (virtual and physical), including servers, storage, connectivity and configuration for on prem, cloud-based and datacenter-based systems. 

About the Role:

 We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Network & Systems Engineer to join our growing team. This critical role will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our private cloud and data center infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of our critical business applications and services. This position requires a strong understanding of both Windows and Linux operating systems, deep expertise in VMware technologies, and a proven track record of managing complex enterprise environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain our private cloud infrastructure based on VMware vSphere, vSAN, and NSX.
  • Manage and administer our on-premises data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, network devices, and power/cooling systems.
  • Storage infrastructure support & administration, including SAN, NAS, DAS technologies & associated storage fabrics.
  • Network support and administration of Firewalls, Switches, Routers & Wireless Infrastructure.
  • Ensure the high availability and performance of critical business applications and services.
  • Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect our infrastructure and data.
  • Proactively monitor system performance and identify potential issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all infrastructure components.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies to improve our infrastructure.
  • Managing relationships with Hardware/Software and communication vendors.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Maintaining good relationships with other teams and maximize teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ensure that regular operational and compliance checks and tasks are completed using agreed procedures.
  • Complete service requests within agreed timelines as per agreed request management processes.
  • Server operating System support & administration (Windows & Linux)
  • Monitoring of server backups and administration of backup Infrastructure.
  • Ensure the timely completion of assigned projects and/or work-streams, provide updates as required, raise or address risks and issues in a pro-active manner
  • Support the automation of tasks using agreed tools and/or scripting as per automation strategy
  • To provide technical assistance to the local InterSystems staff using the appropriate ticketing tools.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call Rota as required.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in supporting complex ICT environments with multiple stake holders involved.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS).
  • Strong skills in as many as possible of the following Technologies
    • Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory & Entra ID
    • Redhat Enterprise Linux administration
    • VMware Systems Administration
    • Cisco Networking
    • Palo Alto Firewalls
    • Cisco Meraki
    • Storage environments (EMC Unity, Pure)
    • Server Hardware (Dell/EMC)
    • Service Now (ITSM, Change, Asset Management)

 Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

 Education & Certifications

Required: Degree in Technical subject, or appropriate work experience.

  • ITIL/ITSM certifications
