The Role

SMEC are looking for a Senior Systems Safety Assurance Engineer to join our rail team based in our North Sydney office. You will have the opportunity to deliver various projects across rail, light rail, roads & highways. This role involves day to day tasks related to system safety, systems engineering, and safety engineering.

With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work. As a Senior Engineer you will:

  • Prepare system safety assurance plans.
  • Prepare system assurance reports.
  • Facilitate risk assessment workshops.
  • Provide system safety assurance advice and support to projects meeting the requirements outlines in the Rail Safety National Law and WHS Act.
  • Collaborate with appropriate team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and co-ordination of project deliverables.
  • Apply project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely manner.

Suitable Applicants Will Have/be

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Min of 5 years’ experience working on rail projects, with an understanding of TAO requirements
  • Good understanding of EN20126 / 28/29 standards
  • Experience facilitating risk assessment workshops (PHA/SHA, IHA, OSHA and CHAIR)
  • Experience preparing and managing hazard log, including ADCs and SFAIRP justifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
