The Senior Technical Project Manager provides end-to-end leadership of complex software and technology projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to expected quality standards. This role oversees project planning, execution, governance, and risk management while proactively identifying and addressing delivery variances. The role partners closely with engineering, product, and senior client stakeholders to ensure technical deliverables align with client outcomes. They provide strong leadership, anticipate issues before they arise, and drive clarity and decision-making across multiple workstreams to ensure successful delivery in high-complexity environments.
Role Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex technology projects, proactively managing risks, controlling variance, and ensuring alignment to strategic outcomes from initiation through closure.
- Define, document, and govern project deliverables, scope, and timelines, holding senior stakeholders accountable for commitments and ensuring cross-functional alignment
- Develop, maintain, and drive an integrated project plan that encompasses all technical workstreams with clear visibility of critical paths and dependencies
- Actively lead agile delivery teams, guiding sprint planning, prioritisation, agile cadences, and ensuring delivery discipline while concurrently managing overall timelines
- Lead all financial aspects of the project, including team capacity and budget management, and reporting to maintain financial health and transparency throughout the project lifecycle
- Facilitate and influence governance forums, including senior working groups and steering committees, driving informed decision-making and ensuring timely escalation of issues
- Oversee execution across all project management dimensions, including risk/issue management, tracking and reporting, quality assurance, workflow management, change management, and stakeholder communication
- Manage and orchestrate cross-stream dependencies, including complex internal and external technical and business dependencies
- Engage deeply with technical teams, understanding integrations, technical design, and delivery constraints, and ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Review functional specs, solution design and user stories to ensure business and technical requirements are mapped, dependencies identified and a clear critical path established, enabling effective planning
Role Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or recognised certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile)
- 8–12+ years’ experience in project management, with a demonstrated track record delivering large-scale, complex digital or technology initiatives
- Experience delivering software projects with budgets of $5m+ or similar scale, across multiple technical streams
- Demonstrated capability engaging, presenting to, and influencing senior executives and C-suite stakeholders
- Extensive experience delivering complex technical projects across the full SDLC, with successful delivery from inception to production.
- Strong experience in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
