About the role

Our design team is a diverse, curious, and passionate group focused on creating intuitive, accessible, and engaging experiences across Tyro’s platforms. As a Senior UX Designer, you’ll play a leading role in design initiatives across our digital ecosystem, with a particular focus on Tyro’s banking platform. You’ll ensure our merchants have clear, consistent, and user-centred experiences when managing their accounts and financial tools, while also contributing to in-person payments, eCommerce, and design operations.

What you’ll do

Strategy
  • Help define and prioritise what we build, why, and for whom, bringing clarity to ambiguous problem spaces

  • Lead discovery activities, working with your team to frame problems and define clear hypotheses

  • Use research, insights, and metrics to influence decisions and advocate for user needs throughout the product lifecycle

  • Translate strategic intent into actionable design direction, balancing user experience with business goals

Craft
  • Design elegant, functional, and accessible interfaces grounded in a deep understanding of user needs

  • Confidently prototype and test ideas, evolving them through feedback and iteration

  • Tame complexity by simplifying flows and aligning solutions with design system patterns (or evolving them when needed)

  • Ensure your work considers edge cases, technical feasibility, and the finer points of interaction design

  • Experiment with new tools, including AI-enabled design workflows, to deliver better outcomes faster

Collaboration
  • Work as a trusted partner with product managers and engineers to co-create solutions and drive alignment

  • Influence priorities and approach through storytelling and clear articulation of user needs and design rationale

  • Mentor designers across the team, helping uplift design craft, process, and product thinking

  • Facilitate critiques and feedback sessions that grow the team’s collective confidence and clarity

Impact
  • Own end-to-end experiences within your product area and be accountable for their quality and performance

  • Drive improvements to the way we work, from design ops to how we prototype, research, and ship

  • Champion accessibility and inclusive design practices

  • Identify cross-team dependencies or overlaps and proactively bring people together to resolve them

  • Contribute to the evolution of our design system, patterns, and documentation to help scale design at Tyro

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products across web and native apps

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating user-centred design from discovery to delivery

  • Proficiency in Figma, with experience using or adopting AI-powered design tools

  • Familiarity with research and testing methods

  • Strong communication and storytelling skills

  • Experience working in agile environments with engineers and product teams

  • A solid understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles along with methods for embedding into product development

  • Enthusiasm for exploring how AI can enhance and accelerate design processes
