Relationships: APAC Business Intelligence, Analytics, Data Management and Data Science teams; APAC IT, APAC, international and global business functions

Purpose of position

The Data Science & Operations Research Advisor is a pivotal role in a new divisional analytics organization supporting all APAC functions and markets in the areas of Business Intelligence, Data Management, Data Analytics, and Data Science.

This is a challenging role that supports APAC business functions, strategic projects and processes with a wide range of advanced analytics solutions. Your role will be to conduct analysis of complex problems, discover insights and recommend improvement actions through data mining, statistical and mathematical analysis and advanced data visualization techniques. Next to that you will support ‘citizen data scientists’ in other business functions with advanced analysis, user training and coaching.

Areas of responsibility

1 - Data analysis: Support key APAC business processes with advanced analytics

  • Identify critical operational problems and determine relevant data requirements.
  • Assess availability and relevance of data to address operational challenges.
  • Design and develop strategic methods for data collection and analysis.
  • Create mathematical models and simulations to improve operational efficiency.
  • Explore and design using advanced scientific methods, including but not limited to Mathematical optimisation and Operations research, machine learning and predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, network simulation & optimization, process automation, geospatial analysis, statistical and mathematical programming, application prototyping
  • Summarize and present findings and recommendations to business users and stakeholders in understandable and relevant ways, both verbally and visually
  • Document and publish analyses so that others may reproduce and learn from prior work
  • Conduct or support training sessions and provide coaching to analysts in business functions and other key user groups in APAC

2 – Advisory and project management: Support key APAC business strategies with analytics solutions

  • Make recommendations for analytics solutions needed to support main business strategies and initiatives, including resources required, functional expertise or systems capabilities
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on design and development of solutions
  • Work with peers in Business Intelligence, Data Management and Data Analytics to develop and provide solutions
  • Support the development of technical analytics solutions by communicating business requirements and providing subject matter expertise
  • Build plans; ensure work progress; identify and report success measures
  • Prepare and present progress reports and outcomes to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with peers to manage implementation and delivery

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Operations Research , Mathematics, Statistics, or similar discipline. PhD degree preferred.
  • Experience: 8 years practical, advanced analytics and operations research experience in any industry
  • Expert in using open-source or commercial solvers: GUROBI, CPLEX, Localsolver Google-ORTool…
  • Proficient in object oriented programming language such as Python, JAVA, C++…
  • Expert analytical skills; statistical and mathematical knowledge; modeling and visualization skills
  • The number one data analytics ability: to constantly and independently ask questions, find answers, and learn
  • A good understanding of fundamental business principles and problems
  • Professional skills: influencing & persuasion; judgement & decision making; leadership; planning & organizing. Project management certification is a plus.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
