The Opportunity:
The Ship Lead is responsible for overseeing maintenance management activities for the assigned product, ensuring alignment with the Asset Management and Class Society and Seaworthiness frameworks.
Reporting to the Maintenance Support Manager, this role is pivotal in coordinating Maintenance Support Services, delivering assurance on Annual and Five-Year Work Programs, and driving technical investigations aimed at optimising system performance and asset reliability.
The Ship Lead will play a proactive role in maintenance planning, execution, and continuous improvement, contributing to the reduction of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while maintaining operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance Planning & Development:
- Lead the development of maintenance packages and inventory lists required to acquit planned maintenance activities.
- Ensure maintenance activities are structured in accordance with best practice methodologies and contractual obligations.
- Programmatic Assurance & Compliance:
- Oversee progress and execution of Annual Work Program (AWP), Annual Task Material List (ATML), and Five-Year Work Program (FYWP) to ensure adherence to project milestones.
- Monitor and review Amphibious Combat and Support (ACS) Capability Life-cycle Management (CLCM) maintenance activities, ensuring effective development, delivery, and burndown tracking.
- Ensure compliance with Defence Asset Management, Classification and Seaworthiness requirements.
- Technical Investigations & Maintenance Optimisation:
- Conduct in-depth Technical Investigations into ship systems and key defence equipment, identifying root causes of maintenance issues.
- Review and enhance baseline technical data to support maintenance and reliability improvements.
- Drive initiatives aimed at enhancing asset reliability and life-cycle cost efficiency.
- Configuration & Status Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ship configurations and documented baselines to support informed decision-making.
- Prepare and deliver status reports to the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) as per CLCM contract requirements.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum AQF Level 5 qualification in a relevant Technical Trade or Engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in Maintenance Management, leading teams in the Defence maritime environment.
- Strong understanding of Defence Project and Contract Management principles.
- In-depth knowledge of contemporary maintenance methodologies, including Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM).
- Hands-on experience with Naval Logistics Information Systems (NLIS), particularly CMT-U and AMPS.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Higher-level qualifications in Engineering, Technical Trade, or Maritime disciplines.
- Prior experience as a Waterfront Engineer or Ship Superintendent within the Defence sector.
- Proven expertise in leading contracted planned maintenance and breakdown repair activities.
