Build and operate cloud-native pipelines, services, and integrations for high-volume grid, meter, telemetry, and utility data. Develop data models, ingestion workflows, observability, data quality checks, and near-real-time integrations between Flex, utility systems, and grid modelling engines. Improve customer onboarding processes and contribute to testing, CI/CD, code quality, and engineering culture while using AI-assisted development tools.

Gridsight is a rapidly growing Grid/CleanTech startup on a mission to accelerate global electrification and decarbonisation. We are building a vertical SaaS platform for electricity utilities, enabling them to modernise grid operations and unlock transformational flexibility capabilities such as dynamic operating envelopes and flexible interconnections. Having recently raised our Series A funding from Airtree Ventures, Energy Transition Ventures and Area VC, we are poised for rapid growth and are seeking talented individuals to join us on our mission.

Flex is Gridsight's DER orchestration product: dynamic operating envelopes, emergency backstop, flexible exports, and battery orchestration. It's how utilities actively manage millions of solar systems, batteries, and EVs in near-real time, and it sits on top of the power flow and optimisation engines built by our grid modelling team.

We're hiring a Software Engineer to join our Flex product team - and bring real software engineering rigour to the data side of the product.

This is for an engineer who does the software side of the data ecosystem exceptionally well - cloud native experience (we use AWS), comfortable building services and integrations, and equally at home in pipelines, SQL, and dbt. You'll own the systems that move grid data in and out of Flex at volume, keep them observable in production, and build the integrations that connect the product to utility operational systems and to our grid modelling engines.

What You'll Do
  • Design and build pipelines and services that process DER telemetry, meter data, and network data reliably at volume
  • Build the integrations that connect Flex to utility operational systems, in both directions: data in from source systems, orchestration outcomes back out
  • Build the observability that tells us when a pipeline or a feed is failing, and why - data quality checks, metrics, logging, and alerting on the systems you own
  • Build and maintain the data models that power DOEs, backstop events, flexible exports, and battery orchestration
  • Mature the ingestion and implementation process so onboarding a new customer is repeatable, not reinvented each time
  • Partner with the grid modelling team to get their inputs and outputs flowing cleanly between engine and product
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate delivery and raise the bar on what a small team can ship
  • Contribute to engineering culture: code quality, testing, observability, and knowledge sharing
What You'll Bring
  • 3-6+ years of engineering experience across software and data, with a track record of shipping and running production systems
  • Experience building cloud native systems - we run on AWS, but strong GCP or Azure experience transfers
  • Strong Python and SQL, with the software fundamentals to build services and integrations, not just pipelines
  • Experience building data-intensive software: ingestion, transformation, and orchestration, and the tooling around them (dbt, Airflow, Dagster, or similar)
  • Experience working with messy, high-volume data from external source systems, and making it trustworthy
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: clean architecture, testing practices, code review, CI/CD - in service of shipping things that matter
  • Fluency in the use of AI-assisted development tools - you're already using agentic coding tools, LLM-assisted workflows, or similar to accelerate your work
  • Strong ownership and a bias to action - you take things from idea to working software without waiting to be told
What Would Set You Apart
  • Exposure to lakehouses and open table formats (Iceberg, Delta, or similar), and familiarity with Databricks
  • Event-driven architecture in production, and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
  • Streaming or near-real-time data systems in production
  • Experience in energy, utilities, or infrastructure technology, particularly DER telemetry, smart meter, or SCADA data
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary. We hold high expectations, but pay accordingly.
  • Meaningful ESOP so you share in the growth of Gridsight.
  • $2,500 WFH allowance, $2,500 health and wellness allowance, bi-annual in person working weeks, and lunch is on us when you're in office.
  • Work how you like. Fully remote, hybrid or in office with a fresh, new head office in Sydney and satellite spaces in Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart.
