Your Title: Software Engineer (RPG)

Are you interested in developing the functionality of our industry-leading payroll product for the construction sector?

What You Will Do

As the Software Engineer working on our JobPac Payroll solution, you will utilise your RPG knowledge to expand the functionality of this industry-leading package, used by many of the world’s leading construction companies. Working as part of an internationally distributed team, you will update the system to encompass changes in payroll legislation in Australia and New Zealand, including scoping, defining, coding, and verification prior to changes going live to production.

This will include:

  • Work with the development team, product manager, and QA teams to perform product design, implementation & defect verification for Viewpoint's best-in-class construction ERP in the ANZ region

  • Liaise directly with the Product Management team to implement against product requirements, and solicit more information as required to deliver on time and with quality

  • Identify opportunities for improving software development methods and procedures and communicate recommendations appropriately

  • Design and build applications in line with Viewpoint standards and requirements

  • Provide timely and accurate reports on status, issues, and opportunities to management

  • Participate in peer code reviews to ensure quality is present and knowledge is transferred.

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

In addition to your excellent communications skills (both written and verbal), top-notch organisation, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills, and possess good time management abilities, the other experience, and skills you will need to succeed in this position include:

  • BS or B-TECH in Computer Science Engineering/IT or equivalent

  • 5 + years of experience in the following areas:

    • Proven and relevant technical experience in application design and programming and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    • Ability to write clear, concise code in Free format RPG using modern techniques & standards

    • Experience implementing formal software design patterns in large-scale solutions

    • Experience with IBM OS and skilled in CommandLine Programming and DB2

    • Experience in Java & Web Development will be looked upon very favorably

    • Experience working with cloud technologies (Azure/AWS) & distributed teams is desirable.

We also value your possible experience with Agile Development methodologies, API Design & Development, and knowledge of construction or financial industry-based ERP or project management principles and practices. Any prior experience in migrating applications written in native RPG to a modern tech stack will be advantageous.

About Your Location

This position could be either based full-time in our Trimble ViewPoint office in Chatswood, Sydney, NSW, or it could be hybrid, with two days each week working from home.
