About the opportunity

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) is one of the oldest and most prestigious music schools in Australia. It is a distinctive part of Sydney’s arts and educational nucleus. The SCM is renowned for its exceptional commitment to music, innovative programs and partnership programs with Australia’s major music organisations. Since its inception in 1915, the Conservatorium has played an important role in shaping Sydney’s cultural identity.

The Special Events Coordinator supports the strategic external engagement priorities of the SCM with a broad focus on the development and delivery of events, projects, and other external engagement activities. Reporting to the Strategic Relations Manager, the role includes implementation of the External Engagement Strategy, including providing administrative support, managing effective stakeholder relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and coordinating engagement activities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide organisation, coordination and production of the SCM events and special projects including Masterclasses, Alumni and Development events, high profile events and other special performances and bespoke school engagement activities

  • provide management and coordination of travel scholarships and global mobility opportunities

  • represent the SCM and University at a range of functions in a professional manner, including meet and greet of VIP guests, dealing with the public and performing front-of-house duties where necessary

  • ensures appropriate coordination of venue bookings, accommodation, catering and other logistic support services such as AV or ICT support

  • manage administrative activities and services including records keeping and provide accounting support.

About you

We are seeking an exceptional Special Events Coordinator, who possesses:

  • tertiary qualifications in business administration and/or equivalent relevant experience in business
    administration

  • previous experience in event coordination, with experience in a musical or arts organisation preferred

  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

  • ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines

  • experience in financial management including managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure

  • advanced MS Office skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Mail Merge.
