Your New Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join our Digital Modernisation Division, delivering high-quality database services within complex, multi-vendor environments. This role focuses on Microsoft SQL management and engineering, combining technical leadership with hands-on delivery across database administration, optimisation, and automation. You’ll play a key role in shaping reliable, secure, and scalable data platforms while contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee database administration, ensuring performance, availability, optimisation, and secure operations across enterprise platforms.

  • Design and implement automation for database provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and routine operational processes.

  • Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines, supporting consistent and repeatable deployments and data workflows.

  • Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot issues, maintain governance standards, and ensure reliable service delivery.

About You and What You'll Bring

  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server environments, including administration, query development, and performance tuning.

  • Advanced SQL expertise, with the ability to optimise queries, stored procedures, and data processing solutions.

  • Solid understanding of database fundamentals such as data modelling, indexing, backup and recovery, and high availability.

  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) and familiarity with CI/CD and version control practices.

  • A collaborative and thoughtful problem-solver, with the ability to work across teams and contribute to secure, well-governed database environments.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and be able to gain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance.
