JOB DESCRIPTION

Empower is searching for a talented problem solver to grow our business and manage credit risk of our lending products. You will be joining in the early stages of a fast growing company, and have the opportunity to jump right in on many exciting and impactful credit projects.

The ideal candidate is passionate about using data and analytics to drive business growth and help customers improve their financial situations.  This individual will support workstreams across credit policy, testing, and valuations, as well as partnering with product, tech, and finance teams to build out solutions that drive value for Empower and our customers.  The right person for this role is someone who shines while solving complex problems with accuracy and attention to detail. This role requires strong familiarity with both SQL and Excel.

Travel for company offsites is expected at a minimum 2 times a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use data to optimize policies, driving better outcomes for Empower and our customers

  • Build financial models to provide detailed estimates and refine strategies

  • Create and manage automated systems to monitor business performance

  • Design tests to measure effectiveness of new strategies where data is limited or non-existent

  • As your career progresses, become an expert in and owner of one or multiple subsections within the credit space

Job Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering, business, finance, computer science or mathematics

  • 2+ years industry experience in data analytics, with a focus on using data to solve complicated and ambiguous problems

  • Strong SQL abilities with high accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in documenting or outlining complex metrics, systems, and processes

  • Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to lay out and test clear hypotheses, and solve problems without well-defined direction

At Empower, we hire for people that push themselves to understand others and seek out ways to challenge their personal assumptions. Our hope is that by fostering such an environment, we strengthen our business and relationships by putting people first. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workspace where everyone (regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any personal characteristics) feels like they belong. Even if your experience doesn’t exactly match up to our job description, you should feel empowered to apply regardless!
