About the role
At Nextpower, we’re building a best-in-class accounting organization designed for accuracy, speed, and control at scale. The Australia Controller is a key accounting leader. This senior manager will stand up and mature the Australia finance function partnering with the Country Managing Director.
This role will play a critical role by delivering timely, accurate financial insights and demonstrating strong business and commercial acumen. You will oversee local accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls, and partner closely with global Payroll, Treasury, AP, and Tax to optimize business performance and the company’s financial position.
Externally, you will represent the company and ensure full compliance with legal requirements as well as internal policies.
What you’ll do
Financial & Statutory Close
Manage accounting activities and lead statutory financial close activities in collaboration with Global Controllership teams.
Review and approve journal entries to ensure accurate and timely book closure in line with the corporate close calendar.
Partner with local operations teams to support business needs with accurate and timely financial information.
Compliance & Taxation
Ensure timely and accurate compliance with GST, withholding tax, and other applicable tax regulations, including annual return filings.
Liaise with regional support consultants to ensure adherence to all Australia statutory and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with global and local tax teams on transfer pricing, tax provisioning, and tax audits.
Audit & Controls
Demonstrate deep understanding of and hands-on involvement in SOX compliance, including key control design, documentation, and testing.
Manage statutory and internal audits under Local GAAP, coordinating with auditors and internal stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with internal teams, peer groups, external consultants, and key stakeholders to drive business outcomes.
Work across manufacturing, service, and trading operations to align finance processes with business needs.
Project & Process Management
Lead and support global finance and automation projects from design through implementation.
Drive continuous process improvement and enhancements to financial systems, controls, and reporting.

Qualifications
Required
Strong knowledge of:
Accounting principles (US GAAP / IFRS)
Financial statement analysis
Statutory and tax compliance
Hands-on experience with:
ERP systems
Microsoft Excel (advanced level)
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Industry experience in technology, solar energy, and/or manufacturing in global organizations.
