The Cloud and Network Automation team supports the Group wide commitment to delivering world-class software tools that optimise processes and increase efficiencies across our technologies. Focused on ensuring maximum leverage of our existing capability, we deliver robust, cost-effective solutions, that drive improvements in efficiency, security, resilience and usability. Beyond Design and Engineering, the team have a number of specialisations, providing design authority over a range of networking disciplines around Cloud, Network Automation and Core network architecture, leading to better technology tools and platforms to deliver better customer experiences and outcomes.  

 

Your Role

As a Staff Engineer focused on Network centric Automation and Systems, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing and implementing custom software driven automation solutions for integrating and managing network elements such as Firewalls, Switches and other Network Assets. You will collaborate closely with our Network Engineering and Security teams to create robust, scalable and secure automation tools that streamline our Network Assets data and processes, helping to enhance our network security posture. To achieve this, your role will require you to: 

  • Architect and develop automation tools and platforms for network assets management. Advanced Software Engineering skills and proven industry experience are a must. 

  • Engage with and provide consultative assistance to engineering stakeholders, including network engineers to requirement gather and understand solution requirements. 

  • Integrate API-based solutions for efficient automation, configuration and monitoring. 

  • Ensure appropriate documentation throughout the end-to-end delivery. 

  • Ensure automation tools comply with security standards and best practices. 

  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for deploying automation solutions. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automation tools and network security configurations. 

  • Document processes, configurations, and workflows related to network automation. 

Your Skills and Experiences  

You are an experienced Software Engineer, whose career has been focused on automation, network security and DevSecOps practices. A summary of highly regarded skills for success in this role include: 

  • Network configuration, automation, workflow and task simplification tools (ie. Apache Airflow, Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipeline, Python, YANG, JSON) knowledge 

  • Scripting languages for cloud technologies and serverless deployments (ie Python, Bash, PowerShell) are essential 

  • Advanced level knowledge of at least 1 programming language (Python, Java, Javascript/Typescript) 

  • Experience with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure or GCP 

  • API development and integration expertise 

  • Container and virtualisation technologies such as Docker, Podman 

  • Orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes  

  • Knowledge of network fundamentals – switching, routing and firewalls 

  • Clear and effective communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
